Indian Air Force ad invites recruits to fly aircraft it doesn't operate
07 July 2015
An Indian Air Force (IAF) recruitment advertisement has generated controversy - and ridicule - in domestic military circles for depicting a Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet, an aircraft that it does not operate.
The F/A-18 image, featuring in several Indian newspapers on 5 July, appeared alongside Sukhoi Su-30MKI and Dassault Mirage 2000H combat aircraft that are in IAF service and above the tagline 'Join the mission'. The F/A-18 was a contender for the Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft contest but was not selected.
The IAF said the images had been taken from its recently launched 'Guardians of the Sky' game app. The service has embarked on an aggressive recruitment drive to make up its shortfall of more than 7,667 personnel.
