I5 is likely to launch services to IXB,GAU & DEL soon with the new aircraft.
Multiple options that were in consideration included additional flights to IXC _________________ www.networkthoughts.com |

6E has a daily BLR-GAU non stop flight and 9W/S2 and SG have one each via CCU.
On the BLR-IXB sector ,6E offers a direct flight via CCU.I dont think the other airlines have a same flight service on this sector. |

Yes. 6E does HYD BLR GAU IXB daily and return the same way, IXB-GAU-BLR-HYD
I5 initially was to start BLR-IXB 3x and BLR-GAU 4x, which is now planned as BLR - GAU - IXB - BLR 4x and 3x the other way round.
The obvious reason being requirement of Cat2A which will come from IXB-GAU flight, which at 331 kms has the second ASKM in 2A. The highest is GAU-DIB 371 KM
These 2A would be used to launch flights on BLR-DEL sector _________________ www.networkthoughts.com |

Actually 6E rotation is HYD BLR GAU IXA AND V.V. Not IXB. |

Off topic, the IXA GAU BLR HYD 6E flights gets some significant traffic from Bangladesh as well.
Dhkaka Agartala is under four hours by road and there is even a regular bus service. |

AirAsia India to start flights on Delhi-Mumbai route
20 Oct, 2014
The Indian unit of AirAsia will soon start flights from big cities, changing its strategy of connecting smaller cities to take on competition which followed the airline wherever it went since launch of operations earlier this year.
AirAsia India, which started with connecting cities like Chennai, Kochi, Goa, Chandigarh and Jaipur from its hub in Bangalore, plans to start operations from key cities like Delhi and Mumbai. The airline had earlier announced that it wouldn't operate from these cities because of high airport charge.
"We had earlier decided to operate between smaller cities and develop markets but the competition is following us everywhere. Now, we have decided to take on competition in their big markets like Delhi and Mumbai by announcing our flights soon," AirAsia India Chief Executive Mittu Chandilya said.
"Aggression is the best defence and AirAsia India is doing the right thing by moving into the competition's market to take them on." This change in strategy has, however, slowed the capacity-addition plan of the airline, which will now operate a fleet of five aircraft until end-December. It initially had a target to have 10 planes by the end of 2014, which was later cut to six.
"Now, the sixth aircraft comes only in January," said Chandilya. He said all AirAsia India's flights, with the exception of Bangalore-Chennai, are generating cash. "The Bangalore-Chennai flight is not making money because we are pricing it less due to competition from other modes of transport that are available in abundance between the two cities." AirAsia India, which started flight operations in this June, has been unable to meet its target of breaking even in the initial months itself.

Interesting. My friends who travel often to DAC - do so via BOM or CCU or DEL - which is quite a detour if routing via BOM/ DEL. Did not know about this 4 hour bus thing - I guess that's a good cost saving measure for the traveler on a budget? _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Nimish far quicker is for your friends to go to MAA and take the thrice weekly Maldivian (Q2) flights on MAA DAC. They can connect with domestic flights on both directions. This is the cheapest and quickest flight alternative and Q2 is the only airline currently linking South India with DAC. |

Thanks - but that's not convenient for a business traveler (want's daily frequencies) or a 9W FFP Platinum + AI Maharajah (or whatever it's called). He prefers to be loyal to these 2 carriers. Now if Q2 were to join the Etihad Partners grouping - then that would be a different story _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Fair eough, Anil and Mukesh may find them too unglamorous but looks like a lot of others who have less frenetic schedules do find them convenient
As far as the second part goes, I think they are too well managed to qualify for membershp
Back to Air Asia - Interesting to see Mr C stating that only BLR MAA is loosing money. BLR GOI ha seem some reasonable fares but if BLR COK is making money then in my opinion Tony has wangled some sweets from CIAL as well like he seems to have got from BIAL .Even four/five days out you can get 999 al inclusive fares to COK and most days fares at 1999 All inclusive, so me thinks some sweet deals would have already been stuck when Tony visited COK before the start of ops. Keep in mind COK is not managed by AAI. |

AirAsia set to touch down in Pune
Nov 15, 2014
AirAsia is likely to introduce three new domestic flights from Pune. The first flight out of Pune will be to Chandigarh on November 30 and the airline has also scheduled services to Jaipur and Goa from the city.
"AirAsia is launching Bangalore- Pune-Goa, Bangalore-Pune-Chandigarh and Bangalore-Pune-Jaipur from November 30 onwards. These flights will all be on a daily basis. The additional services will benefit commuters flying into and out of Pune city," said Manoj Kumar Gangal, airport director. The airline said it hasn't finalised a time slot for these services yet. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

Are I5 trying to create a niche flight, meaning to say that the otherwise lucrative BOM-IXC market has a sizeable chunk of passengers from Pune?
Thanks, Sumantra. |

Right now the cheapest way to travel at short notice on a Friday evening/Saturday morning from Bangalore to Delhi provided you are willing to be a little flexible is to travel BLR IXC or BLR JAI on 6E or I5 and take a bus/train from there. In particular the JAI option is very good as the flights on both I5 and 6E are in the evening and there are lots of Premium buses from JAI to DEL in the night. From BLR the fares on BLR JAI even two days before departure for a Fri evening is much cheaper than the BLR DEL fares which for on any airline goes sky high on the weekends.
Even today one week out, the cheapest BLR DEL fare for 21 November Fri evening on Indigo is 9000 while the BLR JAI fare is 6000. THe BLR DEL fares will only increase as the travel date approaches while BLR JAI seems to go up by a much lesser extent. |

If you wish to travel to DEL from BLR via JAI/IXC please ensure that you travel by train from JAI/IXC to DEL. Travelling by road on both the routes is a nightmare. _________________ Save Maharashtra! |

AirAsia India Q2 loss at Rs 29 cr
Nov 24, 2014
AirAsia India incurred net loss of about Rs 29 crore in the September quarter, the first full quarter of operations in India. While it is early days yet to judge the airline on its financials, it incurred Rs 10 crore net loss month on month with just two aircraft in operation. In the 18 days of operations in June, the airline had recorded Rs 26 crore net loss. During the September quarter, AirAsia India carried just 1.15 lakh passengers in all and even though each month the number of passengers increased, aircraft loads obviously remained below breakeven. Perhaps the first thing AirAsia India needs to do is to get get more bums on seats.
The loss figures have been culled from parent AirAsia BhD's September quarter filings, passenger numbers and load factor details from DGCA reports. AAI's aircraft loads or number of occupied seats were 69.8% in July, 73% in August and 68.7% in September. This means in a month (September) when almost all other airlines reported increased loads due to festival season travel, AAI missed the bus. It flew with almost every third seat empty. Ditto for July and loads were only marginally better in August.
The airline is operating with just two aircraft but expects to add another two in December, doubling fleet size. This should give it the flexibility to open up more routes. Though CEO Mittu Chandilya had said at the time of launch that the airline is not looking to get Delhi and Mumbai on its radar because of high cost of operations at these two airports, already this caution has been turned on its head. AirAsia India is now looking to start operations at both these airports in the near future. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

I guess Air Asia is waiting to pounce on the impending decline of Spicejet. The moment the flight cancellations become routinely erratic, they will ease into the country-wide scene. |

AirAsia India to start Delhi flights in March
February 3, 2015
AirAsia India will launch service from Delhi in March and hopes to break even on addition of its sixth aircraft in May, the airline's chief executive officer Mittu Chandilya said today.
Originally, the airline had planned to break even in four-five months but has gone slow on its expansion plans.
AirAsia India began service from Bangalore in June and has three planes at present. It will add a fourth plane in next three weeks.
The airline plans to launch Delhi-Bangalore and Delhi-Goa service in its summer schedule and will also introduce red eye flights (wee hours flights).
While airlines in India have flown red eye flights on routes such as Mumbai-Delhi, AirAsia plans to fly red eye flights to Pune, Jaipur and other cities.
"We hope to break even after adding sixth plane. We have started generating positive cash flows already. The positive cash flow is not because of discounts from Bangalore airport, which add up to only 0.75% of our costs. Our flight occupancy is good," he added. The airline will have a fleet of 13 planes by December 2015.
Initially, the airline had decided not to fly to Delhi and Mumbai because of high costs but changed its plans. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

AirAsia Group to add five aircraft in 2015 for deployment in India, Japan and Thailand
27-Feb-2015
AirAsia Group stated it intends to add fewer aircraft in 2015 and focus on growth from existing resources. The group will take delivery of five aircraft in 2015, which will be deployed in India, Japan and Thailand. The carrier will defer A320ceo deliveries to later dates to take advantage of the fuel efficiency of A320neos, scheduled for delivery from late 2016. The airline will also sell older aircraft to ensure a young and efficient fleet and deliver aircraft to new markets showing growth in demand _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

AirAsia India posts Rs 21 crore loss
February 27, 2015
AirAsia India made a net loss of about Rs 21 crore in the December-end quarter.
AirAsia India is an associate company of Malaysian low cost airline AirAsia Berhad which is listed on Kuala Lumpur stock exchange. In its result filing to the exchange AirAsia disclosed that its Indian airline made a net loss of 12.7 million Malaysian ringgit (about Rs 21 crore) in December end quarter. The result is not comparable to corresponding period in 2013 because the airline began operations only last June.
"We hope to break even after adding the sixth plane. We have already started generating positive cash flows. The positive cash flow is not because of discounts from Bengaluru airport that add up to only 0.75 per cent of our costs. Our flight occupancy is good," AirAsia India CEO Mittu Chandilya said earlier in the month. The airline will have a fleet of 13 aircraft by December 2015.

So out of 10 aircraft addition to I5 fleet, 1-3 will be new and the remaining will be big brother's hand-me-downs.
Just out of curiosity, how difficult is it to exchange planes (short term wet lease?) between AirAsia Berhad and AirAsia India when they go in for major checks in future? |

I5 have beaten Vistara to it.
Let's be thankful they didn't call the aircraft 'JRD's Pussy' _________________ I don't know which is the more pampered bunch : AI's widebodies (the aunties) or Jet's widebodies (the planes).

On a serious note, it is really heartening to see VT-JR(D)T(ata) wearing this livery, honouring the great visionary. One hope to see his vision live on through AAI (Air Asia India, not the other one!) and Vistara, and it is also heartening to see Air India, in spite of its shoddy current state, retain some of it, even if it is in an extremely minute quantity.
Cheers, Sumantra. |
