’Himalayan Eagles’, a squadron of the Indian Air Force that serves as a lifeline to Ladakh and Siachen sector in Jammu and Kashmir, is set to celebrate its 44th raising day on Saturday, says a UNI report.
IAF squadron number 25, responsible for maintaining the vital air bridge to Ladakh, was raised in the year 1963 at Air Force Station Chandigarh and is currently equipped with the heavy jet transport aircraft IL-76 and the medium turbo prop aircraft AN-32.
It performs the unique task of keeping the lifeline to the Ladakh and Siachen sector open throughout the year for valiant soldiers of the country who brave this extremely hostile terrain, known as the world’s highest and coldest battlefield, a defence statement said here today. |
