Posting the next 2 parts in a separate thread instead, understanding the fact that not all internet connections are the fastest Smile

So, the story so far: The story so far:
We had arrived into Hong Kong after a 4 year gap on SQ's A330 and A380, which led to some unfortunate and unnecessary drama, due to positive vibes in Hong Kong. Once the drama was overcome, it was time to head for Taiwan, on the ultra rare (outside the US, at least) MD-90 aircraft. Taipei was most certainly a fun experience, but it ended much too soon. It was time to get to the airport on the
Taiwan High Speed Rail
. I put a significant tick mark on my bucket list as the long dream of being on a 747 flight was finally done as we came back from Taiwan into Hong Kong for a final night.
Factor in two very unique spotting sessions, along with that!

One of the last pictures I took from the hotel room was of the Aeroflot A330 taxiing out towards the runway. Such was my pace, I made it to the SkyDeck while it was still taxiing out! Shocked
The first plane I saw was the 9W A332 from BOM Smile

Aeroflot bird still there!

Never heard of that Rolling Eyes

Take offs were from runway 7R. This made for some classy pictures Very Happy

UA off on the long flight to ORD!

...while this UA rests before the SFO flight!

AA to Dallas

It might be underpowered, but she sure does look pretty! Very Happy

The BR MD90 which I spotted earlier in the day from the hotel room.

Thai AirAsia

The size difference between the A332 and the 77W is amazing! Yet, the A332 can fly for over 12 hours, and the 77W for over 17 hours, the difference of 5 hours can easily be covered by a the staple domestic birds, the A320 and B737. Aviation Smile

Surroundings need a view, too!

Man and 747, the size!

Absolutely beautiful and stunning. Aeroflot have one of the best liveries out there, period.

Yeah, they were the only other people that morning...

She took off like a rocket...and I have been on that bird! Very Happy

Ah ha! The B772 from SIN, operating flight SQ860...so that meant by A380 was only an hour away! Very Happy

Asiana!

Peach...never heard of them too Rolling Eyes I sense a majestic departure! Very Happy

Well, clearly the majestic departure came a lot earlier than expected...she was beautiful! And sounded the same, too! Very Happy

MH B737 from KUL, this plane to taxi around for quite a bit before a gate was assigned, almost 20 minutes, I'd say! This used to be an A380.

More majestic departures!

TG 744 from BKK. This used to be an A380.

Another Majestic departure...where is the UA plane though?! Also note, this is the only plane in China Airlines' fleet which has an American registration!

T2

There she is! The one I was waiting for all the while! Very Happy
What a rotation!

Amazing in all angles!

Finally. A gate. Among the big boys.

That has to be loud...! Very Happy Very Happy

Jin Air?! Another one I haven't heard of...and eye brow 737! Very Happy

That's quite long for a narrow body Airbus Rolling Eyes

E-jet!

Winglets still look better on the 737 Wink

Finally. A B737 takes off.

And now, a B73H. This was a Mandarin Airlines flight, actually. Operated by China Airlines.

I started walking back when I heard something, really damn loud!

This was perhaps THE loudest take off of them all! An amazing spotting session had come to close.

2 ways to get to the city - bus and train!

Special livery A333 from TPE. Gosh, there's been so much of Taiwan, no? Razz

I would've loved to have waited for a Singapore Airlines A380 to take off, but I would be on the plane, so a no to that Sad
Hong Kong SkyDeck, I remember telling you in 2010 I will be back, and now in 2014 I tell you once again: I will be back! Very Happy And hopefully by then, the new concourse comes up!

In the next part - spotting from the terminal! Very Happy

Regards
Jish

Excellent pics, Jishnu. Thanks for sharing.

Many of them are professional quality. You should consider uploading them into Airliners.net.

I think all of us will second member The_Goat's observation.
I spent the better part of the morning gawing at the pictures: the beautiful angles especially on the four-holers at take-off, with the wing-sweep accentuating the awesome pose, which brought back childhood images of some Boeing 707 promotional pictures which I grew ogling at.
The Hong Kong Airlines A332 looks like a cargo variant, with the bubble NLG wheel well inverted canoe fairing: please correct me if I have completely lost it.
It is also always special to see an MD-11F take-off.
It is always special to see the wheels retracting, and clicking a plane in the process gives a special feeling to the beholder. The wheels rotating in the air, the lithe press of the brakes to counter the rotation, and the eventual retraction into the wheel wells. Magical!
As usual, some lovely comments under the pictures, to accentuate the reader's experience. I look forward to the Terminal spotting pictures: these are after all, much more familiar surroundings for me!
Cheers, Sumantra.

I was pleasantly surprised by my own work, and yes, thank you for the encouragement! I surely will give that a thought once I get some free time after exams next year Smile

Really nice to know, sir! For me, seeing the A380 land and take off in India (2007) really got me glued to the TV screens, that was some sight!

Spot on! There is also a CX 74F, in case you missed it Very Happy

True! The MD-90 was pretty cool, too! Very Happy

Sir, that is a fantastic observation! I sadly, did not appreciate all of this because of one simple reason: get a picture of the entire plane in the frame of the camera; making sure the winglet or vertical stabilizer did not get cut out!

Thank you, once again! I will hopefully put up the terminal pictures today, and finish off the TR soon - its only a matter of copying and pasting the text, all pictures have been linked in!

So what happens before and after this will be in the TR, I shall jump straight into the spotting session. I needed 45 minutes to cover the entire terminal, and the aim was easy: minimize the number of pictures of Cathay and Dragonair planes, focus on other airlines! I barely missed out on the South African A343, but other than that, it was all pretty good Smile

First of all, Dad's pictures:

And the 2 steps back in photography, my pictures.

Saw this one land Smile

She would later go to HND..

The 2nd oldest 777 in CX's fleet

That is B-17926, OUR EVA MD90! And it was parked at EXACTLY the same place where boarded! Except, it was in the day so...

Fun fact: Xiamen Air have 109 planes!

Must..get on a 767...soon!

North Satellite Concourse!

Ah ha, look who just came in from Israel!

MH 737...it felt like there were almost 5 of them in the airport!

There's my bird - hiding! Very Happy

Someone's in the wrong neighborhood Smile

We would later race with her towards departure Smile

DAMN YOU REFLECTION! Evil or Very Mad

A318CJ, perhaps?!

Wait...didn't a CA A333 just depart? Shocked

9M-MRF, the 'tyre' plane, Sumantra sir? Smile
In all honesty, it was a chill-going-down-the-spine moment as I stood in front of this plane...you've got to feel for MH, and especially this bird's siblings!

After this, it was time for boarding, the A380 9V-SKG back to Singapore!

Regards

Now, this is more familiar territory, at a time that is a bit more familiar. A SQA388 departure from HKG is about two-and-a-half hours before the Air India one back to Delhi, so at least some of the sights, and lighting is not too different, though I have often found the A380 gates to have lots of reflections, and quite a challenge at that time of the day. Did you also go behind those white/grey panels to take a picture? And you remember schedules, registrations, and histories by heart...amazing. I wish I could do all that.
Xiamen Air: is it me, or does it somehow remind people of either LH or KU: the bird on the tail?
Jishnu: the first picture of the ANA wide-body looks like a B773/W(?), the second one is a B763. Or have I lost it completely?
Thanks for remembering my idiosyncrasies with MRF: I think `our MRF' actually stands for `Madras Rubber Factory'.
Thanks for these lovely pictures: I relived my spotting memories from inside the terminal building, at HKG!
Cheers, Sumantra.

Spot on! Very Happy

Sticking the camera lens right up onto the glass is key...I didn't have the time to do so, hence some reflections here and there...

This was nothing, sir. There was so much more I could've done thanks to FR24, but I got just too late due to my last year in school...But I'm glad you liked it!

sumantra wrote:

It does look similar, doesn't it? But I've always wondered.. Lufthansa, where hans is Swan in Hindi, while the logo is of a crane..both are pretty much similar...this could just be me, but I think there is some substance with LH's name and livery, relating to this!

You have lost it, but not completely.
I have lost it completely, to be honest. Yes, that is a 777, and not a 767, but it is a B772 Smile There were three birds of ANA then - two 767s to Nagoya, Osaka and Haneda Smile

I didn't know that Surprised Yup, no one else other than an Indian would know what I meant by 'tyre plane' for 9M-MRF! Rolling Eyes

Thank you so much for your reply! Very Happy

sometimes, that is difficult if one tries some last-minute focussing, or puts it in the auto-focus mode. A handkerchief, or sometimes the hand itself helps, though the latter gives a bit of skin-coloured reflection, which is also irritating.

No surprise, it is the same root word.

Oops Sir, that is a bad mistake on my part! Not a typo, it is a glaring mistake.

Great pic you have there..Really nice.

May i add a correction...The UA 777 in the pic towards the top ..shot #4 and #5 is actually the UA 116 HKG-EWR nonstop 16+ hrs flight..not the ORD flight. The way to tell it is EWR is by looking at the engines which in this case are GE-90 that are on the Ex-COntinental 777s that operate the EWR-HKG-EWR sectors

Hello VictorKilo, thank you so much for your kind words! Very Happy

Well, you certainly have an eye for detail! I would've never figured it out that way, but then again, I'm quite lost as to how to identify PMUA and PMCO birds anyways! Correlating with the EXIF, I can indeed confirm that pictures 4 and 5 are of UA116 heading for EWR, and not UA896 heading for ORD.

Thanks for clarifying!

Please post more of this if possible.
