|

Hello members,
Writing a trip report is not as hard as it might seem. Here are some guidelines to help you whether you are a first time or an old pro author!
1. The Title
The title of the thread plays a fairly important role. It's important to mention the Airline and the Destination here, as will the class of travel.
Something like:
Jet Airways BOM-BRU on J
Emirates BLR-DXB-JFK on Y
Please avoid titles like:
Air India LHR-BOM on Y, bumped to J, horrible experience.
Which can be replaced by:
A horrible experience on AI LHR-BOM J class
If you are posting a long trip that involves many destinations/airlines, a title like the following would be fine:
A Thai Experience
A Trip to Europe
It's also necessary to mention the number of pictures and videos in the Trip Report:
To JFK on the Air India Non-Stop (55 pics/5 vids)
Gulf Air BOM-BAH-FRA (80 pics)
2. Content
Include an introduction at the start of your trip report with details such as:
Purpose of your Trip
Reason for airline chosen, etc.
Make sure you elaborate on all aspects of the flight. Do mention the dates of travel, flight numbers and aircraft types. They're sure to keep viewers on this forum interested. It would be wise to split the entire report into various sections such as Check-in, Boarding, Flight, etc. You can also give the airline and/or airport scores as per your jurisdiction.
3. Images & Videos
The icing on the cake for most readers would be pictures of the Trip. It makes the trip report more interesting and informative. They needn't be of great quality. Even a cellphone camera would work well. There is no limit to how many pictures and videos can be in a thread. You can host your files with websites such as Flickr, Imageshack or Photobucket, and share them in your Report. Make sure that the files in the above mentioned sites are not modified, or the link breaks and they won't be displayed in the TR.
Though there are plenty of good reports even without pictures in them.
4. A Few Tips
->Don’t type your report in all caps- it makes it pretty tough to read.
->Use paragraphs as much as possible so that your trip report installment is not run on- this also can make it hard for others to read.
->Sometimes folks may ask questions in response to your TR-it’s a good idea to read responses to your report so you can answer them.
->Write your trip report in Microsoft Word, WordPad, SimpleText, or any other text editor. Do not compose it in the message box of this message board. Why? Because if you lose your connection suddenly, or there's a posting problem, you'll lose all your hard work! Write it, save it, then post it.
->It would be great for anyone writing a trip report to ask questions of themselves, the trip, and those reading the trip report. Look to create a discussion about your experience. If you noticed something out of place or unusual, feel free to ask the question. Other knowledgeable members would be more than happy to answer it for you.
Thank you for reading!

Good list.
I really feel it would be very helpful if all the members also mention the dates of the travel as it would help remove any ambiguity as to which year the member flew the sectors. |

Good, so now we can expect you to write dates of travel in your TRs as they have been missing from every most of your TRs |

I should be posting TRs about my trip to Spain as well as my trip to the Midwest and Yellowstone. Great guide, even though I have written a TR before, it has been a while since I last posted one. _________________ http://openflights.org/user/akumanduri |

Alright, so I have put a part of my first TR on the forum, and I have copied the links into it.
But, the pictures would not be showing for some reason
Any help with that, please? _________________ http://www.youtube.com/c/JishnuBasu777 |

It's because you need to have posted a minimum amount of times before attempting to link pictures or other data into your posts. I think the number is 5, or could be 10 or max 15. _________________ Yeah. |

So you are saying that I'll just post texts in the next 14 reports, and then I can add picture to links, right?
That shouldn't take too long then

Or, you could go and spam up the other forums before coming back and posting your reports _________________ Editor of AeroBlogger |

Not just reports, can be any topic on any forum on this board.
Hint: Try the civil-av section. You'll surely find lots to talk about there. _________________ Yeah. |

Do we have a thread for TR requests?
edit: If not, is it ok to create one? |

If you mean - to post a TR - go right ahead - the trip reports section is waiting.
If you mean - request a TR on a specific airline/ routing - again - feel free to post a request on the Trip Reports thread. _________________ We miss you Nalini! |
