Great TR Ojas !
Like the picture of SG bird - with the wheels neither up nor down

Nice pictures !

Interesting machine out there to check baggage weight - how much does it cost ?

The picture says gate 7 and you have written that you boarded from gate 8 - the change was communicated ?

Also noticed EDTO on the SG bird and not ETOPS. Now reading the difference or the similarity

Interesting TR - esp. on the confusion on baggage allowance, that was new to me! Any idea why it is so?

And kudos to SG on the spectacular loads...

Thats due to operating weight restrictions

Sg carried less pax and more cargo then shifted to more pax with less baggage on the sector

How can an operational restriction end up with the passenger paying through his nose? Sounds like a policy mess up to me!

Nice TR Smile
WhatsApp members anticipated this, of course Wink
Great pictures along too, especially because it was a horridly timed set of flights (ideal for you though..)

Strange baggage policy...I wonder what would've happened if all passengers had showed up at PNQ with 30kgs of luggage! SG might make some extra cash there, but surely something would not be right in the operation of the flight.. Rolling Eyes

Lucky you with the relatively new aircraft, and of course BSI!

I'm still trying to figure it out, to be honest.
Please do share with us what the differences are...
But is the first time I've seen (or heard about) EDTO!

Looking forward to more of your TRs, Ojas sir...and probably a weekend trip to Sri Lank? Smile

Regards
Jish

Thanks Ameya

It costs AED 3 or 4 to weigh your baggage.

Well the check in counter said 7, but the boarding pass and FIDS post immigration said 8, being adjacent gates it wasn't a problem.

Nimish it was a payload issue. My only gripe was that they should have metioned very clearly on the ticket, like any other IATA format ticket to avoid confusion. The way it is put and the wordings are so cursory and hardly anyone would notice. Rest of ME it is 30K both directions.

Thanks JB,

As mentioned above, my only issue was they did not communicate it it well. That was very silly of them.

Atleast for Kerala flights from Middle East, people used to have more luggage on the ME-India leg than the other direction. Many of the people working in ME "courier" gifts to friends and relatives through those who are flying out to India.

You can argue that the same can happen on return with home goodies being sent in to the near and dear ones. But of late there has been increasing incidents of people carrying stuff from "frienfs of friends" and then being caught by customs in ME countries because these "packages" contained prohibited items. Hence more people are preferring to live and work in peace and dont mind antagonising the "friends of friends". After all "detention" is detention.

Back to Spice Jet, I donnt like their bragging of being on time!!!I am a regular on one of their international routes and rather than hearing the monotonous bragging, it would have helped more if I dont get rwearded for my loyalty by being assigned "last to be served" seats after being among the first five or six to check in. Another irritating thing is that while I give both my Indian contact number and the local overseas number of the country where I work, they keep on calling my India number for giving delay information on a flight into INDIA. Atleast where I work, roaming charges for calls from India cost a lot.

Their service is also hit and miss. Some flights (and these are not red eyes but flights at perfectly civilized times) the crew are brilliant, on some the attitude of the crew is something like "be grateful we are serving you".

Anyway after a six month gap I will be flying them again in the near future. Let me see whether Mr Kapoor and his team has made any difference.

Great detailed TR Ojas, and loved all the detailed photos.

Spice Jet has found a niche city pair and I am sure they must be making good money on this route. Although the companies net worth has completely eroded so not sure if they will survive long term.

Whenever Indians travel there will be more luggage and dozens of people coming to send off at the airport. I guess we are like that only. I my self have carried bizarre things to India based on my friends/family request.

Thanks a lot.

Yes its a typical GCC flight, just that the flight is very very popular amongst the Bohri community.

Thanks for sharing this superb report Ojas!

A couple of queries:
1) Did you check the BOB menu? If yes, is it similar to the menu offered on domestic flights?
2) Did they sell alcohol on board (considering SHJ being a dry emirate)?
3) Was the catering for the SHJ-DXB leg loaded at PNQ?
4) Does PNQ based crew operate this flight?
5) Do they offer any paid in flight entertainment (via tablets)?

Rgds,
Pats

1) Yes, similar to the menu you would find on metro routes.
2) I do not know about other international routes, but on this route they don't even sell alcohol
3) Yes
4) Yes
5) No

SHJ airports looks chaotic, more luggage than pax hehehee.
This whole 'yet another ontime blah blah' .... ugggghhhhh!!!! Rolling Eyes hope this doesn't also become an SG thing.

AI doesn't fly DXB-PNQ daily?

Nice pics and a great TR.

Thanks a lot ....

AI does fly DXB PNQ ... however they operate out of SHJ till the 20th July due to runway works. Plus the timings of the AIX flights are pathetic both ways.

Ojas, I guess it was worth the wait for me to read another gem from you. The start put the reader in the right frame of mind, with you explaining the options, and why you chose SG. Wow, you have two separate wallets! Thanks for taking time out from a taxing schedule to share this report with us: this is also perhaps the first SG Int'l report on the forum.
Cheers, Sumantra.
