Wait over, first commercial flight takes off from Mysore
15th Jan 2013
After lying idle for three-and-a-half years, the Mysore Airport saw its first commercial aircraft taking off on Monday. There was no formal inauguration and no speeches before the commercial operations began.
Spice Jet’s flight took off to Chennai via Bengaluru at 1.30 pm. The airline will operate three domestic flights a week and there will be a direct flight to Chennai, and also connectivity (change of flight) to Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad via Bengaluru, said Mysore Airport Director C. Manjunath.
He said there will be a flight per day on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and each flight can accommodate 78 people.
Booking of air tickets too began on Monday. The tickets can be booked at the airport, air ticket booking agencies and online. Twenty per cent of the seats will be offered at a 40 percent inaugural discount till the month-end, he said.
Flights leave Mysore at 1.30 pm and arrive in Bengaluru at 2.20pm and arrive at Chennai 4.10 pm. In the return direction, flights leave Chennai at 10.40 am, land in Bengaluru at 12.20 and arrive in Mysore at 1.10 pm.
He said there are no plans yet of having more connecting flights to other airports across the country. There are no plans yet to have connectivity for international flights from Mysore, he said.

The title is misleading. Kingfisher was operating using an ATR-72 , flights on the Chennai-Bangalore- Mysore route. In fact the timings were almost identical. Long time back I beleive there was Vayudoot service as well.

What is the last line ? There are no plans of international connectivity ? !
These days, every airport in India wants to have international flight and every major airport wants to be a hub with MRO & Cargo capacity |

This is great - and hopefully the route does well for SG. I'm glad they've started this as a 3pw rotation for now - no point dumping capacity unless there's sufficient yield coming from this route. _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Mysore goes off air map on September 5
Sep 2, 2014
The Heritage City could lose air connectivity again.
Within days after it resumed its services to Mysore, SpiceJet indicated to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) that it will discontinue services from September 5. The state government plans to get Air India to connect Mysore to important destinations.
Deputy commissioner C Shikha said SpiceJet will discontinue services later this week, and it'll affect Dasara travellers.
With the private operator indicating it could withdraw flights till October-end, revenue minister V Srinivas Prasad is considering getting the government-owned operator to operate flights out of Mysore. "After the intervention of Union minister of state for civil aviation GM Siddeshwara, the private operator had agreed to resume operations. I don't know what changed in less than a month. We should focus on alternatives," Prasad told TOI.
Given that Mysore generates traffic, it should not be a problem for the Union civil aviation ministry to press its fleet of ATRs to serve travellers to Mysore, said Prasad, who is also the district minister. "It's the peak season now and we'll start Dasara celebrations in the next four weeks. We need air connectivity," he said, adding that he'll talk to Siddeshwara about it.
Sources said Siddeshwara's office learnt about the sudden decision of the private operator on Sunday. As he had asserted that commercial flights would operate during Dasara, he's in a tight spot. "He had intervened to restore the service and spoken to senior executives of the private operator who had agreed to operate the Mysore-Chennai flights," sources said. He is currently in the US.
Chief minister Siddaramaiah too had written a letter to the minister in July seeking his intervention when the operator stopped the service.
Mysore airport director C Manjunath said he would take up the issue with tourism minister RV Deshpande who will be here on Thursday. Traffic has been good after the service resumed on August 21. The operator said it has some operational issues and cancelled the Mysore operations, he said.
The operator said it's facing problems with its fleet of ATRs leading it to stop Mysore services. However, traffic was good with occupancy of over 60 per cent. The outbound load was over 70 per cent and the booking was good too which indicates Mysore's economical viability, Manjunath said. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

Well - someone suggested this might be SG's way of getting the Govt. of Karnataka to cough up the promised dough (to operate the flights)? _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

The thing is, usually when a plane is grounded, more parts are stolen from it additionally to the original defective part. As an when the replacement arrives, it is replaced. Therefore it tends to become a Christmas tree. I hope u get my point.
Cheers
