^^ Good - finally the lessors are getting something back - though they've probably had to spend a ridiculous amount to get the birds back...

The Fissure-King's ACJ seems to be gathering dust at the far end of BOM, as does his little Hawker.

I don't think the Fat One has any shortage of funds.

I have heard that the Fat One's planes are in danger of getting confiscated by his creditors if they take to the air again. Is this true?

From: http://www.daijiworld.com/news/news_disp.asp?n_id=236976

Quote:
State Bank of India may announce Mallya a 'wilful defaulter'

State Bank of India, which has an exposure of Rs 1,600 crore to grounded airline Kingfisher, on Friday said it is exploring ways to declare promoter Vijay Mallya as a 'wilful defaulter'.

"We are looking at various ways to declare Vijay Mallya a wilful defaulter and trying build a strong case in that regard," an SBI source said. The source said that as per RBI guidelines, it would have to be proven that the borrower had diverted funds which he taken from the bank and not paying up despite having the ability to pay.

"If we are sure on these two points, then the bank will declare Mallya a wilful defaulter," the source said.

A person declared wilful defaulter would lose directorships in companies and would never be able to borrow further. SBI leads a 17-member consortium of lenders that is trying to recover dues running into over Rs 7,500 crore in principal alone from Kingfisher Airlines. SBI has the maximum exposure of Rs 1,600 crore to the airline, which has been grounded since October 2012. The loan to Kingfisher Airlines had become bad, forcing the bank to go for provisioning of the loan amount.

Why is it taking so long, they should have done all of this years ago!

Airbus retains hope for Kingfisher 82-plane order

June 13

Airbus Group NV said it’ll keep an 82-plane order from defunct Kingfisher Airlines Ltd on its books while there’s still a chance that the Indian carrier might find a buyer which would require new aircraft.

The order concerns 67 A320 narrow-body jetliners and 15 twin-aisle A330s with a list price of US$6.8 billion.

“If Kingfisher finds a new buyer for the airline that buyer would need single-aisle planes, so for that reason we’ll keep them until the airline is completely shut down,” Kiran Rao, Airbus’s executive vice president of sales and marketing, said in a briefing at the company’s base in Toulouse, France.

Isn't Kiran Rao one of Mallya's close buddies?

and is anyone in Airbus besides him harboring this hope of a big order from Kingfisher?

At 0.14, there is another (cannibalized) A320 in old IC colours.

at 0.43, there is yet another A320 in old IC colours, without engines.

and again , at 1.08, there is a third A320 in new AI colours, which looks like it is under storage.

Not a topic for this thread, but why are so many IC A320s sitting around like that?

At 0.43 there is a 737-200 visible, in old IC colours. I suspect that this is the long lost VT-EGM.

Those are the IAE V2500 powered old ones, on their way out. These belong to the VT-EP*, -ES* and EY* registration series, are 22+ years old fuel guzzlers now and have decrepit interiors. Hence, the tender for new/6 year old A320s.

Some of those were painted in the current livery.

2 days ago I saw 8 IT ATRs at MAA. some were missing nose radomes and some were missing engines - some both. 2-3 didn't have the IT logo on the tail. 5 were facing the grass, the other 3 a small distance away but in the same line, were facing the centreline. Are these 3 also being readied for flying away ? They seemed complete from a distance.

Incidentally I also saw a CX 748 near where the parked aircraft were stored. Is the 748 too big for the cargo area - presuming it was a CX cargo plane.

Scary state of the aircraft - feel really irritated that the Govt. of India/ MoCA let this happen, and that VJM is still busy flaunting his goatee and diamonds...

Gold. Razz

All said though, Force India are one of the more successful F1 teams. Perhaps Mallya is finally doing something right, or he's just sitting back and letting Mol and the rest take charge.

Kingfisher Airlines approaches Delhi HC against aviation ministry, Sebi, NSE and BSE

Jul 31 2014

Kingfisher Airlines Ltd on Wednesday moved the Delhi high court to restrain the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), the BSE and the National Stock Exchange from taking action against it for non-compliance with certain provisions of its listing agreement.

The airline also sought a court directive to the ministry of civil aviation to consider its application for security clearance to Lalit Bhasin for appointment as a director of the company.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) requires security clearances for directors and chairman/chief executive officer for the grant of a no-objection certificate to an airline to operate as a scheduled operator.

From: http://www.newindianexpress.com/business/news/CBI-Probe-into-IDBI-Bank-Loan-to-Kingfisher-Airlines/2014/08/09/article2371776.ece1

Quote:
CBI Probe into IDBI Bank Loan to Kingfisher Airlines

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has served an inquiry notice on IDBI Bank over a loan of Rs.950 crore it extended to Vijay Mallya-led troubled airline Kingfisher Airlines, saying this extent of exposure was not bona fide.
...
"The notice to IDBI Bank pertains to a PE (preliminary enquiry) into its role on a loan to Kingfisher Airlines -- how it (the bank) sanctioned Rs.950 crore, when the airline's net worth was negative," a CBI officer told IANS.

"This was also the bank's first exposure to the airline. There was no need for the bank to have taken such an exposure that, too, outside of the consortium when the loans of other banks were getting stressed," the officer said, requesting anonymity.

Asked to respond, IDBI Bank Chairman and Managing Director M.S. Raghavan said: "We are aware of this particular case. In the latest notice, the CBI has sought replies to certain queries as part of ongoing investigations to which we shall reply in the next few days."

He said such responses were sought and given even in the past.

"We have nothing to hide. The loans were extended as part of the consortium or multiple banking, after making thorough appraisals, as required," Raghavan added.
...

"We have nothing to hide" - perhaps - but nothing to show of the 950 crores either. I hope more such banks are pulled up for the crony-capitalism that they've displayed, falling for the image or the underhand $$$ instead of a cold hard look at the books.

It's rare that other people's financial misfortune gives me pleasure, but this one probably qualifies, after what this swine has done to others.

United Bank of India first bank to declare KFA and Vijay Mallya as wilful defaulter

United Bank of India has become the first bank to declare Kingfisher AirlinesBSE -2.55 %, it's promoter Vijay Mallya as well as three directors on the board of KFA as wilful defaulters.

According to a source close to the development, " the action comes after KFA officials did not show up for the meeting with United Bank's grievance redressal cell this morning at 10:30 AM."

http://www.livemint.com/Companies/hRhiAp877R984kjBJ7pxOP/Mallya-seeks-airport-passes-to-inspect-grounded-planes.html

Mallya seeks airport passes to inspect grounded planes

Sep 17 2014.

Nearly two years after it was grounded, Kingfisher Airlines Ltd has sought airport passes to inspect its planes, many of which have been mothballed at various airports around the country.

Kingfisher Airlines chairman Vijay Mallya met aviation minister P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju a few weeks back and requested him to allot passes so that he can check the planes.

“He is seeking some 20 passes for all over India. We have asked the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) to look into it,” said a government official who declined to be named.

Kingfisher declined comment.

There are less than 24 planes, including Mallya’s personal luxurious Airbus business jet with registration VT-VJM, parked in the Mumbai airport, said another person familiar with the situation.

It was critical to get the passes for the airline’s engineers to check the condition of the planes, especially after the monsoon season, the second person said.

Many of Kingfisher’s aircraft have been displaced from their original location due to strong storms this year but there was no one to enter the airport as the airline’s passes had expired in December.

“He is not asking for special passes, all he is saying is to allow for normal passes so engineers can check them or if lessors want to see the aircraft for any paperwork that can be done,” the second person said, “It’s not an unjust demand.”

I seem to have missed seeing VT-VJM on my recent 9/11 trip to Mumbai. Is the ACJ parked elsewhere? Earlier, it used to be visible from the port side of planes coming in to land on the main runway 27.
Cheers, Sumantra.

I think I may not have made myself clear here. I made a recent 11 Sep trip to Mumbai (this is much after the most recent post on the thread you mention), and I was on the port side of the plane when landing on runway 27, from where VT-VJM should have been visible. I was wondering if the plane has been shifted elsewhere, or is it right there, and I missed seeing it. I took a seat on the port side specifically to see VT-VJM, his Hawker Raytheon, and of course, `Maharashtra', which will hopefully see better days, soon.
Cheers, Sumantra.

Hi Sumantra,

VT-VJM is indeed parked in the bay near the "32 end" of Runway 14-32 - which means it is visible from the port side of an aircraft landing on Runway 27. I saw it as recently as last weekend. It has been parked there since quite some time. Looks like you missed seeing it. It is in a sad state - gathering dust and faded colours.

VT-VJM is indeed parked in the bay near the "32 end" of Runway 14-32 - which means it is visible from the port side of an aircraft landing on Runway 27. I saw it as recently as last weekend.
