From: http://atwonline.com/finance-data/turkish-airlines-1h-net-profits-42
Quote: | Turkish Airlines 1H net profits up 42%
Turkish Airlines posted first-half net profit of TRY172 million ($80.9 million), up 42.1% compared to a year ago.
Operating revenue for the January-June period was TRY11.3 billion, up 37.8% year-over-year; first-half expenses were up 41.6% to TRY10.99 billion, resulting in an operating profit of TRY312 million, more than doubling the carrier’s reported operating profit during the year-ago period.
The Istanbul-based Turkish flag carrier’s second-quarter net income was TRY398 million. Second-quarter revenues were TRY6.2 billion as expenses came to TRY5.7 billion, resulting in operating income of TRY495 million for the quarter.
The carrier’s second-quarter net results show a considerable swing to profitability from the company’s reported net loss of TRY226 million during the 2014 first quarter.
In the first half, Turkish Airlines carried 26 million passengers, up 17% year-over-year. RPKs and ASKs both grew by 19%, “resulting in a stable load factor of 79%,” the airline said. |
Incredible #s. Kudos to TK - esp. in the light of competition from the MEB3 + LH... _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Flew with them recently on comfort class. As expected it was comfortable. Food and IFE were ok, but not much variety in alcoholic drinks. Its a pity that they getting rid of comfort class on all routes.
The Turkish lounge in IST is the best I have seen anywhere in the world, very large and lots of food and entertainment choices.
They have decent arrival times at BOM, but not so good departure times from DEL (need to be at the airport before 4 am). |

TK's coverage of Western Europe, Central Europe, West Asia and CIS is simply unparalleled. The ME3 cannot come anywhere near. Now they are also increasing their coverage of Africa, Asia and North America.
TK is still not so big in India, where the ME3 still rule the roost. This may change a bit, with AI's entry into Star. _________________ I don't know which is the more pampered bunch : AI's widebodies (the aunties) or Jet's widebodies (the planes).

Most folks who fly TK say that the experience on the ground in IST is a bit ruddy.
Perhaps it has a way to go before it rivals DXB and some of the other popular transit ports. _________________ Yeah. |

It is , particularly for those who have no lounge access. IST is a crowded place where it can be difficult to find even a place to sit. The restaurants and duty free shops aren't bad though.
Despite their impressive connections and network, TK isn't big in India as they operate only two flights per day, one each to BOM and DEL. That is nothing compared to EK, QR and EY, which fly multiple times a day to several places across India. _________________ I don't know which is the more pampered bunch : AI's widebodies (the aunties) or Jet's widebodies (the planes).

I think TK is not particularly keen to expand in India - hopefully they'll change their stance before it's too late. None of the TK future presentations talk about India being a focus area _________________ We miss you Nalini! |
