Hhaha! True.
Then again, the "From India to Abu Dhabi" part is perfectly adequate right now. The "to the world" bit hasn't happened yet, and may never do.
Mieux?
Speaking of, my friend recently took advantage of the 9W-EY venture and experienced the delights of the joint offering. Here are pictures of the IFE screens.

A6-LRC has been fully painted in EY colors and is ready for delivery.
Meanwhile, the former VT-ALB has been ferried to AMS for repaint into Etihad livery as A6-LRB. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

All in all, I am happy the LRs will get the flying that they really deserve. No more downtimes at Kalina/Sahar complex. In good hands now! |

That airplane is never going to fly again, that much is obvious. They might as well sell it to a scrap dealer and get it broken up.

At least two B747-400s seem to be in long term storage.
Another pic below.
At least one B747-400 seems to be active.
Two 777s are parked - one being worked on in the hangar, another outside. One A310 in AI colors is being broken up at BOM, as is the former AI A310 in Aryan Cargo colors.
There is yet another 777 that is in bad shape, parked next to the two 744s in long term storage ....
.... seen from this angle, her engines are missing and it might be a while before she flies anyplace ....
.... she just might be the all elusive VT-ALH.

Oh I'm sure she'll earn enough dirhams for Etihad flying to and from Brazil, partly aided by an operational team that actually put her on routes she is designed for. It isn't rocket science. _________________ Yeah. |

http://www.business-standard.com/article/pti-stories/ai-loss-rs-800-cr-in-books-in-sale-of-5-boeing-777-to-etihad-114072100936_1.html
Air India made a loss of Rs 800 crore in the books in the sale of five Boeing 777 aircraft to Etihad Airways as these aircraft had depreciated in the books over 20 years.
However, the national carrier generated a surplus of over USD 25 million after prepayment of aircraft loan and saved a further USD five million per month towards loan and interest repayment, Minister of State for Civil Aviation G M Siddeshwara said in reply to a question.
Referring to the losses, he said based on the book value of these planes, "book loss on sale of these five aircraft would be approximately Rs 800 crores as the aircraft had depreciated in the books over a period of 20 years while the loans were amortized over a period of 12 years".
However, the national carrier generated a surplus of USD 25.735 million after prepayment of the Aircraft loan when the national carrier sold these five B777-200LR aircraft, he said.
Further, a saving of USD five million per month was generated towards loan and interest repayment, resulting in improved cash flow, Siddeshwara said. He also said that the planes were found uneconomical primarily due to high fuel cost and low yields due to competition.

Air India had to sell 777s at 1/5th price: Vinod Rai
Sep 13, 2014
Cash-strapped Air India's purchase of Boeing 777 aircraft pushed it into such a state of financial unviability that within five years, the airline had to sell its aircraft to Etihad at one-fifth the original price, former Comptroller & Auditor General Vinod Rai told TOI in an exclusive interview on Friday.
"When any purchase has a debt proportion of 97%, there's no way it can be commercially profitable. Within five years of the 777s purchased by AI, they had to be sold to Etihad at five for the price of one. We bought one aircraft at one price and sold it at one-fifth of that price," said Rai.

Air India 777LRs sold to Etihad were used for seven years: report
News
17-Sep-2014 10:11 AM
Air India reportedly said the five Boeing 777LRs sold to Etihad Airways for USD67.3 million per aircraft were purchased at an average price of USD127 per aircraft and used for seven years (Live Mint, 16-Sep-2014). This follows comments made by former comptroller and auditor general Vinod Rai that Air India’s purchase of 777 aircraft pushed the airline into such a state of financial unviability that within five years, it had to sell aircraft to Etihad at one-fifth the original price. |

Good.
