So...its finally out.
Not that I was looking forward to it, too much of hype on Facebook and everywhere actually forced me to try it out on one of the iDevices at home.
Here is what I feel - the icons look very animated. That isn't very Apple-esque. They should have kept the old icons, while the new keypad, pull down/pull up information centres are nice. And I'm surprised the 'innovative' Apple company took so long get these basic things (information centres)
Being a photographer, I really didn't bother looking at the new camera features, obviously. Oh and the signal sign is no longer bars, but circles instead. I find that really strange.
Your thoughts? Whoever have downloaded it?
Whoever has seen all those posts on Facebook?
Non-Apple people?
(PS-I have neutral views on Apple, as you saw on top. I'll hide my OS preference )
Regards
Jish

I'll update my son's iPad to iOS 7 when I get back home next week. That should also give enough time for any issues to be reported/ fixed. _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Took me 45 mins to upgrade.......
Not a great improvement, apart from the up slider quick access to Blutooth/wifi/cam/flashlight options. _________________ Think of the Brighter side !!! |

It took me over an hour to upgrade, which isn't good considering the fact that I updated it about 12 hours after it was available for download!
The time required for charging has increased significantly, not a good sign.
Lags a bit at times, not a good sign either.
I think Siri has started to understand an Indian accent. A little.
And half the apps freeze at times.
Not a very good first set of impressions.
I hope Apple comes out with the patches ASAP.
Regards

Got it on my IPad a couple of days ago. It seems to work flawlessly. _________________ I don't know which is the more pampered bunch : AI's widebodies (the aunties) or Jet's widebodies (the planes).

I only had the iPad to update as there are no more iPhones in the house. Went pretty quickly. So far so good. |

Updated iphone and ipad, no problem.
I like 7 a lot more, but like you said small things they should have done ages ago (control center). Icons etc I can get used too ....
what I don't like
1) why is deleting select msges so hard? press and hold + more + delete
2) not a huge fan of the passcode keypad on the ipad ...
3) wish you could pick the 4 apps at the bottom of control center (I dont care about the timer) _________________ eP007 |

That's the point - you cannot. And you can't hack anything to change it under the hood either. You're going to have to have whatever the OS fancies shoved down your throat.

I just got an iPhone (hence the number change on WhatsApp )
iOS 7 on my parents' iPads works flawlessly, but the lag is a hinderance. I'm waiting for Apple to release a patch for this lag, before I can switch from iOS 6 to iOS 7. I am eager to install it, no doubt, but the lag is what is stopping me from doing so.

Apple in a nutshell for you. |
If only people could understand that Jailbreaking was merely a software hack, and nothing that could affect hardware or warranty, and very much capable of being rolled-back to factory settings, all these Apple naysayers would have had a different opinion.
The customizations you could do on iOS is extraordinary, with Cydia and other repositories at your disposal!
I had the Toggler (Control Center), Multi-tasker / App switcher on my iphone 3G running iOS 4.2.1, swipe gestures that could fire ANY apps I want from ANY screen I want (including lock screen) with ANY gestures I could set. Playing and switching tracks from the lock screen's clock, Quick replying to SMS'es from any screen, in the push notification itself was also cool! Much more than that, on my 2008 idevice iP3G which only had a Camera and NO video, I was able to hack the camera functionality and use a cydia app that could take videos at a humble 20 fps from a camera that has no support for videos!
I videographed Jari Mari and Aero India using that app!
Also, how about getting all the paid apps for free? Not being forced to shell out $10 for that Air Navigation and custom 'made for airmen' apps for free! Or how about getting FlightRadar24, LiveATC, GoodReader, iFly, X-Plane all for free? How about using a File Manager to insert files into the device using SSH ?
So, moral of the story: iOS is not as bad as its thought out to be. You just gotta explore, tweak and then you got a device for Life, with its intuitive UI, powerful parallel app repository and full-fledged customizations! As they say, if you don't have an iphone, ....... !

Absolutely, jailbreak was a great option (+ a lot of free apps)

Lag? |
Lag is when the screen 'freezes' for about half a second (maybe lesser).
It is a bit annoying to see that, especially after iOS 6 is quite smooth and lag free!

Ugh damn it
Well, I have iOS 7 on the iPad 3 and iPad mini. They are slightly newer than the iPad 2, so its even more surprising that this exists in the newer devices. Many others have reported battery drain, wi fi, bluetooth, lag and other issues, so hopefully Apple are looking into this.

^^^ Definitely look at the Nexus 7 as an option. The ability to drag-drop videos/ songs etc. over without having to deal with the whole iTunes mess is something I really appreciate/ enjoy. _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

I didn't want to spam the IndiGo civil aviation thread, so I decided to do it here. I see IndiGo have launched a mobile app for iOS. Or have they?
As you can see, I had just tapped the screen on the 'Apple Store' (really, it should be the iTunes store....)
And then:
....and isn't IndiGo an Indian airline?

So now we have iOS 8 which got announced yesterday. Seems promising, but the icons are WAY too animated, still. I doubt if they're getting rid of that any time soon.
A lot has been done to hopefully make things easier with Macs hopefully. Rather strange to believe that my Mac's bluetooth does not work with the 5. But there seems to be amends with the introduction of an enhanced Air Drop feature.
But then again, Apple are making a big deal out of the their smartest keyboard ever. Androids and Windows have had these for a long long time.
Coming this fall - is iOS 8.
Furthermore, there is a new OS X : Yosemite.
Like iOS 7, they've made the icons too damn animated. They aren't classy looking anymore!
I haven't really compared the current OS (Mavericks) with the other versions of OS (Mountain Lion and all), so the arrival of Yosemite will help me, I guess.
But like I said - not a fan of this new animated icon thingie.
Answering iOS calls on OS X is certainly an interesting aspect, and will work as long as both devices are on the same wi fi network - question is: is this only for Apple users or will someone using an Android call me on my phone, and I can accept the call from my Mac?
Time will tell.

Good that Apple is keeping up the pace with iOS 8 - it will keep the pressure on Google to add additional innovative features! Of course features like Google Now are (probably) still only on Android - and I love things like these. And if Swiftkey is released on iOS (and is as good as it's on Android), I'd strongly recommend folks plonk down the $$ to buy this app - it's a true lifesaver while typing on mobiles. It's literally saved me from typing 10K+ words over the past year or two. _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Google's apps for iOS are very very good. Google now functions quite well too! That is why I do not miss my Android phone anymore - but then again, it was a basic entry level phone so I cannot judge!
Swiftkey - hmm I should give that one a try I guess! |
