It looks highly likely that I'll get the same bird as the inbound, so new addition is in red, as usual.

Given that 90% of the users are from India where the variety is usually a 737/320 ...we have no choice but to log registrations .....
And honestly how does it matter , anyways this thread barely sees 3-4 posts a month,

The entire idea of this thread when I started it was to list "Airlines & Airliner types".
747-237 wrote: | Posted: Tue Jun 12, 2007 12:10 pm
Does anybody else keep an informal listing of all the Airlines & Airliner types flown on ? |
If some of us had to update registrations, this thread would go nowhere. Infact this thread barely sees 3-4 posts a quarter, rather than month, yet those posts add value & maintain what this thread is supposed to be about. It would be nice if this thread wasn't hijacked (no pun intended) into going somewhere it wasn't intended to. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

I don't see how logging registrations of Indian based aircrafts by Indian members is hijacking the thread.
Whatever posts I have been through only Indian registrations are logged or aircrafts with special C/N, Names, etc...
IMO it adds some interest to the thread rather than checking to see If someone flew a 320 or a 737 etc

Like I said, the whole idea of this thread is exactly " to see If someone flew a 320 or a 737 etc" (or something more interesting & exotic, perhaps, such as in your own experiences). And it's not only those in India who fly the usual mix of 737s or A320s - trust me, it is pretty much the same in the new world as well. If we had to update registrations of those & the CRJs, this thread would lose it's value. Therefore, hoping to make it less drab, I was hoping to get only, as the title suggests, "Airlines & Airliners" (including sub-type and variants) posted. One need not *have* to post - most folks go years without flying on a new sub-type or new airline.
But thank you for your opinion, and understanding. Hopefully we can all stick to what this thread has been intended for, and how it has been going for the last six-and-a-half years.
Cheers. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

I do get your point 747-237, but I agree with Karan's logic, apart from most members being India based, Indian regs are much easier to relate too, mainly because you do a phenomenal job in keeping us updated with the new deliveries and fleet changes, it really keeps the interest levels up plus, Indian aviation doesn't really have a very large civil fleet and a lot of planes have those small unique points about them, which can be brought up with members concerned.

Infact this thread barely sees 3-4 posts a quarter, rather than month, yet those posts add value & maintain what this thread is supposed to be about. It would be nice if this thread wasn't hijacked (no pun intended) into going somewhere it wasn't intended to. |
I don't think the value of this thread would dilute if someone is putting across registrations of aircrafts as well. The registrations too are another enthusiastic dimension for us aviation geeks.
Let this thread go with the flow |

Which is all well & good, and in that case they can keep a track of the aircraft registrations someplace else, they just don't to "update" them here, when almost everyone updates what the thread is about - Airlines & Airliners (types) flown. If some of us have to post an "update" every time we get on a Jet Airways 737, or a Delta MD-88 for that matter, this thread would be plain boring.
I mean, somebody, feel free to start a thread about aircraft registrations you've been on, if you have to. The "Your future flights.." thread is a great example of someone branching off from this thread without messing with the original. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

Boss, this would be VT-IFM, not IGM, IGM is a regular 320 w/o sharklets.

I agree - in this case an A320 and an A320 w/ sharklets are different variants, though that has nothing to do with registration updates. I'd hate to see an update for every A320 and an A320 w/ sharklets flown on, though. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

The only reason I posted with the registration numbers was the fact that I had seen similar posts in the thread earlier. I would henceforth refrain from doing that as I understand that is not the purpose of this thread.
And the WL A320 was indeed IFM and not IGM as I had posted.

Folks - can you please provide your opinion on http://airlinersindia.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=13528.
Just to make sure the poll serves it's purpose (of soliciting wide range of input) - If there are less than 20 responses, the mods may ignore the poll and may make their own decision. _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Moderator Note: Friends - can we please hold off the acrimony - I've created a poll - giving members 10 days to voice their opinions. If we get 20+ votes, we'll go by the public decision, else the mods will decide.
There's no right or wrong answer here, it's a matter of personal choice. Hence please express your personal choice in the poll. Any further off topic posts on this thread will be promptly deleted. _________________ We miss you Nalini! |
