New Boeing 777 aircraft delivered to Singapore Airlines SINGAPORE, Dec. 19 (UNI)
Singapore Airlines (SIA) has taken the delivery of new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft into its fleet,which is the third of the model and the 61th 777 to join the fleet,SIA said in a statement Tuesday.
The Airline placed a firm order for a total of 19 777-300ER aircraft in August 2004. Another 16 more will be delivered over the next two years.
Currently flying daily from Singapore to Paris and Hong Kong, the new 777-300ER aircraft will also be deployed to other major cities in Europe, Asia and the United States in due course. This new delivery will enable the commencement of services to Milan andBarcelona on Wednesday, according to the statement.
SIA now operates a total of 89 wide-body aircraft comprising 61Boeing 777s, including 3 new 777-300ERs, 23 Boeing 747-400s, as well as 5 Airbus A340-500 ultra long-haul aircraft.

Have you seen pics of their new F and J on the 773ER. They are massive and I doubt such massive seats were really reqd.

They have started flying SIN-CDG on the new a/c and charge a premium for those seats.

EXCUZ MY NASTINESS but whats the use of a 5 star suite when the airplane hits severe turbulence ? you will flop out of the bed and all the wines, silverware will be spilled all over.. really , sometimes people forget that the basic purpose of transportation is to go from A to B- with your a@@ in one piece. PERIOD.

In some respects I do agree with your opinion. I dont see why I would want to pay 5 times more to achieve the exact same thing. I do agree that in a long flight it can be more comfortable but do I really need those things like caviar? No. Would I pay for a good hotel? Probably Yes. Would I pay for First Class? Def NO.

The one's you are talking are level 4+ turbulences. Again such turbulences are detectable and avoidable some times. Else when your warned about a turbulence your supposed to make your seat back upright, fold your trays, put all win bottles, glasses in some safe place ( finish the drinks off or give them to the crew... you'll get another one later don't worry) and put on your seat belts and prepare yourself.

EVERETT, Wash., Dec. 18, 2006 -- The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] Friday delivered its 600th 777 airplane, to Singapore Airlines. The 777 program reached the milestone after 11 years in service, faster than any other twin-aisle airplane program in history.

With today's delivery, Singapore Airlines now operates 61 777s, the largest 777 fleet in the world with 16 more 777-300ERs that remain to be delivered. The airplane delivered today will be added to the airline's fleet of 12 777-300s, 31 777-200s, 15 777-200ERs, 2 777-300ERs and 23 747-400s.

Are the emergency procedures for ultra luxurious First Class a bit different? Examples are Emirates/Etihad and SQ. Emirates seems to have extravagent fittings and mini chandeliers.

In ditching for instance, will all those extra fittings --- heavier IFE equipment, beds, etc affect the float rate?

More SQ news.

(Dec. 20, 2006)
SQ has announced that it is to buy 9 more A380s, giving the troubled aircraft manufacturer a huge boost. It has also announced that it is goingto buy 19 more A330s and looking at an additional 2- A320s for its subsidiary Silk Air.
SQ's order for the A380s will now be 19 A380s. (10+ now 9)

Air travel is poised to jet past another milestone in the New York metropolitan area — and the full force of the Christmas crush is still to come.
Someone arriving at John F. Kennedy International Airport Wednesday afternoon will be honored as the 100-millionth passenger of the year at the region’s three major airports, according to the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey.
He or she will set a record for Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark airports. Together, they logged just under 100 million travelers last year and are on track to handle 104 million by the end of 2006, an increase of more than 28 percent in just four years.
The new statistic caps a series of recent records for the three airports. Last year’s traffic set one, as did the more than 50.6 million passengers who trooped through in the first half of this year. Newark’s passenger count hit a new high of 34.2 million this weekend, surpassing a record set in 2000.
While a boon to airlines, the growth in air traffic can be a bane for travelers. JFK, Newark and LaGuardia rank among the nation’s worst airports for on-time flights, although their delays aren’t quite as bad as those at hubs in Atlanta, Chicago and Philadelphia.
‘‘Understand that this is the most congested airspace in the world,’’ Port Authority spokesman Pasquale DiFulco said last month. ‘‘We know growth is coming, and we only have so much airspace, and you can only fit so many planes in the sky.’’

Dude the 380s that EK will bring to India will be in the "stuff the cheap labourers" config. I think I shall be happy without too many of those. Also by then if our privates are allowed to fly there maybe EK wont find that many pax in India again.

The new BLR and HYD will be 380 ready. Also BLR opens in April 08, EK is unlikely to fly/get their 380 before that.

Dude, BLR will not be taking the A380 unless Mallya screws up BIAL's case.
Dunno about HYD but even about BOM and DEL work is not that fast as it was in SIN or SYD or other airports

The only airport now that can handle the A380 (minus the aerobridges and other infrastructure) on a runway is Cochin. CIAL manager was giving wide publicity to this recently in Chennai.

Thai Airways considering ordering six more Airbus A380s
BANGKOK, Dec 21, 2006 (UNI)
Thai Airways said Tuesday it was considering ordering six more A380 superjumbos after negotiations with European planemaker Airbus over compensation for production and delivery delays.
‘‘Airbus has proposed a discount for the purchase of six more A380s. That is one of the options we are considering for the compensation,’’ Thai Airways International president Apinan Sumanaseni told reporters.
There had been speculation that Thailand’s flag carrier would cancel its existing order of six A380s after delivery delays of two years, but Apinan said it was now thinking about upping its order to 12 after the proposal from Airbus.
He declined to say how much discount Airbus had offered, but said Thai Airways was considering a number of options.
‘‘Another option being considered is a discount for the purchase of (midsize) A330s that have about 300 seats and suit our expansion plans in the medium term,’’ he said, after a meeting of the Thai Airways board.

Qantas Airways has ordered eight additional Airbus A380 superjumbo aircraft, taking the total number of A380s ordered by Australia’s national carrier to 20, Airbus announced Thursday. Naa QF wont be flying 380s to India anytime soon me thinks. Will be EK eventually. Although I think the first few 380s that EK will get will be in the premium config for their premium routes. Only the later 380s will probably be in the "sardine-can-stuff-the-labourer" config.

I was referring to a situation where the plane hits moderate turbulence also, do they allow pax in F &J to continue sleeping with seat recline ??

I really do not know!!!
Moi, I just fold my seatback trays and fasten my Y class seat-belt tight !!

I think the F and J have a sleeping seatbelt as well that keep you strapped to the seat so I dont think you need to make your seat upright.

Maybe but they only bring in a 744 on one of their routes. Id expect them to expand capacity on other routes first to a 744 std.

Also they arent going to endlessly keep getting pax from India once the Indian pvts are allowed to go abroad.

A lot of Indian privates sfly to SIN including S2 and 9W... but SQ's loads remained almost same, chiefly because they have a lot of dedicated customers. So chances of SQ operating an A380 to india is quite considerable.
They also operate 747s to MAA on certain days as kcm stated

Guys more than Indian airports being A380 ready,we've to see if airbus can sort out the wiring problem on A380.Coz they can't afford any further delays.Otherwise all its customers will go for complete cancellation of this acft order and ask for refund.So if this happens then there is no point in Indian apts being A380 ready.

It is a very difficult thing to say... even if QF raises its voice against the A380 delyas still they have ordered 8 more A380, SQ is also interested for taking some more A380s...
the A380 stilll can be a success... but currently airlines like JAL and the others that you mentioned are not purchasing the A380s because of reasons like less airports handling the A380, cost, their own 744s maynot be that old worth replacing and ofcourse delays and fear of problems that might occur after 3-4 years or so...IMHO

In that sense ofcourse... but still people travel to HKG, PDG from India via SIN in SQ itself because of the brand name and trust

The 380 will definitely fly and I dont think too many airlines will cancel either, even they have spent a lot of money streamlining their plans with the 380 arrival.

If the problems do continue however someone or the other may have to bail the company out.

First SQ doesnt operate a 747 to MAA. Its a freighter service he was talking about and i guess Mayank has already mentioned that.

Why SQ is doing gud is because of brand which they have developed of SIA and ability to promote changi as a HUB. Its a long way before Indian pvt carriers actually start hitting SQ in terms of pax handling. Just by starting a couple of service u just can vie for the top

Yes, just checked this with SQ.
SQ 747 to MAA is cargo. The 4 digit flt no. should hav been an alert!! Rolling Eyes
