If you don't mind sharing - how much was the itinerary? What made you choose this routing? |
Very simple, I had no choice. Currently have no money to do an exotic Russia trip for wife and me but ....
A very good and old friend migrated to Russia 10 years ago, so we are going to visit and stay with him in LED.
Dad had over 2lakh miles on LH so we are utilizing those.
Overall it is costing 23k per person for the redemption.
While I first searched for it, BOM-FRA-DME was available, but when I actually booked it was not. I have never flown a B747, so I wanted to try the BOM flight, next option was BLR, which again was not available and third was DEL, where we got the MUC option, which is good since I have not flown A340 either !
Rossiya has costed 5500 INR p.p
6E 3472 p.p
AI aprox 4100 p.p
SO its 71k + Moscow hotel for the entire trip, which I think is really cheap for Russia ! |

Hmm - interesting. Certainly makes sense to redeem those miles - glad they came in use!
Much prefer the 330/340 family over the 747/777 myself - but SQ's 777s beat LH's 340s any day . _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Hello everybody!
The IGCSE's are over.
Well, almost.
There is a Physics MCQ paper, 12 days down the line.
So technically, its all done!
Straight after that Physics paper (well, late night to be precise!), a trip awaits.
CX710 CMB-SIN 06JUN B773 0035 0700
CX711 SIN-CMB 08JUN B773 2130 2240
Finally, an airline which belongs to an alliance!

We have missed your gems on AI.net for a long time. More so, on the trip reports forum.

Do CX and UL now have full FFP earn/burn/status recognition? From being a part of Oneworld - hopefully that's all sorted out now.
Good luck on the last exam! _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Sumantra sir - TR will be there, but it would take time, I will focus on refining it. Well, exams were good, other than, well, Chemistry still remains a mystery to me!
Nimish sir - Strangely, UL is still saying they will join in 2013, nothing else specified. So UL is still with FlySmiles, CX is still Asia Miles (or Marco Polo?). UL is not a part of OW yet.
However, CX does mean 9W miles, which will be burnt on other airlines.
And to both of you, thank you for your wishes!
Regards

Umm.. It has been decided and I am leaving for Raipur on 15th June on AI 469. It would be an A319 with an odd departure time (0545 hours) but lets come to the real problem: Papa had done the booking in his office and then came and handed me the ticket. But the disheartening part is that he has reserved 11A, 11B and 11C seats. And I WANT 11F at any cost. I checked out the seat map and the aircraft seems to be fairly empty. So, Can I choose 11F in the web check-in? Please do let me know all the AI travellers especially Sumantra Sir (BTW the reason I need 11F is so that I can get the view of Terminal 3 properly after taking off. ) _________________ “Aviation is proof that given, the will, we have the capacity to achieve the impossible.” - Edward Vernon Rickenbacker |

Saharsh wrote: | Please do let me know all the AI travellers especially Sumantra Sir (BTW the reason I need 11F is so that I can get the view of Terminal 3 properly after taking off. ) | Hi Saharsh, just `Sumantra', please . You can first try to access the booking on www.airindia.in. It should seek it out. You can add your Flying Returns number right there, and pre-select your seat. Second, a web check-in will allow you to change your seat to what you desire. You want to photograph IGI T3 at take-off - remember that the wind direction has changed for the past two days, and planes are landing/taking-off from West to East for quite a while. Hence, the web check-in option will work fine, in case the wind pattern stays. AI 469 is usually operated by one of the new A319s, VT-SCG and onwards. Do let me know if you need any specific information.
Cheers, Sumantra. |

Thank you. Sumantra! A trip report would be published and lets see should I change my seat. Can I request for preferred seat in the Check-In counter itself!? BTW I also expect an A320 in this route because VT-EDD did AI 469 on 3rd june so let's se.. Saharsh, DEL is still seeing West-East movements for a large part of the day (though it changes, too). For the AI 469 timings, it has been West-East for the past three days, if I remember correctly. Yes, the check-in counter can do this easily, depending on availability, of course. Yes, I look forward to a nice trip report!

Highlighting what Ameya sir said in his TR.
There isn't a better feeling for us not-so-regular flyers, when you are still in the middle of writing a TR and you know what your next set of flights would be.
I am trusting India's 'full service' carriers on this one..
CMB MAA 9W253 0410 0530 13JUL13 B738
MAA DEL AI430 1045 1330 13JUL13 B788 (hopefully!)

Oh, and I selected seat 28A for the 787 flight, no extra charges

There are much longer ways, but time and money are important
We usually have a practice of going through MAA (as we usually go to CCU or BOM), we do not take the direct flights to BOM because:
a) Timings.
b) Expensive.
In fact, with my dates, tickets on these flights are in excess of INR19k
DEL Airport there is a lot to do, especially spotting.
However, in MAA, a friend has a holiday that day (yes, Saturday school is horrible!), so he promised we'll have breakfast together. And he isn't a person who breaks his promises easily!
I look forward to these trips!
And yes, I have been following your posts on Facebook, so its no surprise to see those flights here as well!
Regards

This looks like an exciting itinerary. IGIA T3 is great for spotting, even if you are inside the terminal. The AI 788s still have some operating hiccups, as do the ET and QR ones. I had heard that AI is having a spare 788 based at DEL for this purpose, to have the 788 flights running. We look forward to a great trip report!

Happy journey. Pls write in a report.
Just a Q,
Why not opt for DOH-DXB-IXE ? with the second leg on 9W ? Since 9W is private monopoly at IXE, do they charge a lot ? |

I didn't overlook that option ameya. The problem was while trying to do 9W-EK Combo, the fares shot up 10 times higher than the actual price. We would have ended up paying some Rs 2.5L!
I tried to do DOH-DXB on Flydubai (because of their dirt cheap fares and the fact that they support transit between them and other airlines) and then a seperate 9W DXB-IXE, but on the inbound leg, I had to spend 5 hours. Since I'm travelling with my mom and dad, that option was forcefully ruled out. _________________ |

Thanks to our experts me111993 and abhijith16, I'd like to announce changes to my plans.
I asked Rishul about changing a redemption ticket booking. He said it would be possible.
And Abhijeeth informed me about the AI DEL-MAA-DEL B788 flights. That flight has been late, greater than an hour, for the past week.
So obviously, I had a good chance of missing my connection to BOM.
Therefore, I made the changes by calling up the Torture Centre. Free of cost.

I do not know the flight numbers.
I do not know the arrival times.
I do not know the flight duration.
But, what I DO KNOW, is the following.
Ratmalana-Trincomallee-Jaffna onboard Helitours departing Ratmalana at 0730 hours 19AUG
Jaffna-Trincomallee-Ratmalana onboard Helitours departing Jaffna at 1530 hours 23AUG.
I'll be honest, I'm a bit scared if I get the Harbin Y12. There goes my reputation of being an #avgeek!

Sir, All trips are official. I would prefer AI for Goa. As for KUL and BKK, the short listed airlines are MH and TG respectively. I am not really looking forward to the foreign trips because I would be leading a group of 200 plus on an Incentive tour. Most of them are from the interiors and would be flying for the first time. _________________ Save Maharashtra! |

Had to fly via BOM/EWR as I have a 1pm meeting in Chicago, for which I wanted to reach early in the morning so I can shower and freshen up in time for that meeting. Return is thankfully the 380/748 combo again
Will be doing approx. another 5K miles domestic in the US - those flights are not ticketed as yet. _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

9W7075 25NOV LKOBLR HK 1455 1920 (Redemption) | Sounds interesting...have you pre-booked a meal on the return? It will be great if you could do a trip report as a comparison. AI 811 will barely get you a beverage with two biscuits, and AI 505, a snack. Post-food-cuts, I would like to hear about (and see pictures of, too!) how the AI (domestic) snacks fare on long non-meal-time flights.
Cheers, Sumantra. |

I had not booked it earlier at the time of booking the ticket. And I am unable to book it now on the website. I guess a beverage with two biscuits should be fine for the duration of AI811. |

Neither is it for me. But I am factoring in the snack service on 505 and a lunch with a few friends in Delhi. |
