Recieved via email:

Taiwan's UDN News (to be more specific, its Economic Daily unit) on 25DEC06
is reporting China Airlines has launched fleet renewal plan, likely to order
at least 10 747-8I.

A board meeting will discuss the fleet renewal study findings in
mid-January.

Sources close the airline says 747-8I is likely to be in the winning league,
to replace its 2nd generation 747-400, delivered between 1997-2000, as well
as 7 340-300. China Airlines is dissatisfied with the 4-engine A340's
performance, particularly at time when fuel price kept reaching new
records. It also noted that with only single-digit orders of the type, it
doesn't convince the airline to keep and ordering newer A340s.

Seems good times for Boeing ahead...

Taiwan's China Airlines says has no timetable for new aircraft purchases

TAIPEI (XFN-ASIA) - China Airlines (2610.TW) said it has no timetable for finalizing plans for the purchase of new aircraft.
Earlier, the Economic Daily News reported that the island's largest carrier is set to buy 2.50 bln usd worth of new aircraft, probably 10 Boeing (nyse: BA - news - people ) 747-8 passenger jets to replace its older fleet of Airbus A340-300s and Boeing 747-400s.
