If it were me, my choices would have been AI, followed by SpiceJet - no guesses why Anyway, with AI, you have a choice of a morning and an evening flight in both directions. The AI 849/850 combination is one which I have often patronised, with good food on both legs - a snack and a dinner, along with a PTV-equipped plane (though I also note that your Papa's Bangalore trip did not get a plane with working PTVs - this may have been an exception). I have not tried the AI 851/852 combination - it should have breakfast in both directions, and depending on your luck, may be one of the 4 PTV-equipped new 320s, or one of the 18 old A320s, though chances are that if you get an old plane, it could be wonderfully clean inside.

Did you finalize the carrier and what is it ?

Wouldn't mind seeing it. Afterall its Russia !
Had finalized a trip there to a friends place this summer on LH points earned by dad. Well, LH is asking for far too much money in taxes, have to cancel it atleast for this year. |

I think the plan has been pushed to mid-june. Nothing has been finalised due to some Vitamin M reasons. Will pakka update by this night. About SVO I will land in Terminal F and considering the pictures it looks pretty good. I think papa is going to make a trip to SVO in may-end so I'll ask him _________________ “Aviation is proof that given, the will, we have the capacity to achieve the impossible.” - Edward Vernon Rickenbacker |

Saharsh wrote: | About SVO I will land in Terminal F and considering the pictures it looks pretty good | Saharsh, it was quite awful in 2011 when I was there, more so, with the Air-conditioning off, hardly any visibility outside due to shops mushroomed all around, cut-throat prices, no money changers post immigration on the way back, rip-off taxi rates in the landside counter on arrival, dim-lit environs, and a general 1980s look. I see no reason why this would have changed for anything better. Yes, I took the same flights, on the 332 then.

Hey that's bad but still I am more interested in Aeroflot rather than that airport. Afterall I already travel in a world-class airport that is our T3 _________________ “Aviation is proof that given, the will, we have the capacity to achieve the impossible.” - Edward Vernon Rickenbacker |

Coming to Aeroflot, I am not sure if you will like the service, or the hard product (even though the latter may be relatively new). The flight is patronised well, and sees excellent loads. There are no power-ports in Y at least. The food is a mixed bag. The IFE selection is quite bad.

478 - Base a/c
489 is MAA-BOM-IXC-BOM-MAA and later operates MAA-CMB-BOM
7125 is a S2 aircraft which would do DEL-IXC-DEL-BLR for this leg |

Finally nakki :
LX : BOM-ZRH-LYS & GVA-ZRH-BOM
AF : LYS-NTE-LYS
The change from LYS to GVA was solely on account of the European departure taxes. Flying out of Switzerland instead means saving several thousand rupees, but only having to drive about 20 minutes further to get to the airport. _________________ four years free of jetya punti! |

I'm travelling with a friend and we did one redemption ticket + one revenue. Since I don't have a Star FFP, I used my friends points for the redemption in my name and then paid for the revenue ticket.
Swiss have lower J fares available, but not on the dates I needed to travel:
- Revenue ticket : Rs 164,304
- Redemption : Rs 21,384 + 104,000 points
The cost difference between Lyon and Geneva wasn't that stark for the paid ticket. But for the redemption, it was nearly 9,000 rupees!
As for alternatives, I usually end up on Delta or Air France (primarily because of convenience). Though I'm not a Star flyer at all, Swiss are a good option, and I do like them, but expiring M&M points made them the first choice this trip. And plenty of redemption availability sealed the deal.
In the recent past, flying west, I've tended to stick to AF, DL, LX (and, once, BA). Eastwards, it's Cathay. And domestic is Indian Airlines.
And about Gulf carriers, I just might be one of the few people in India who've never flown Emirates, and, let's just say the closest I've been to the Middle East is Porbunder _________________ four years free of jetya punti! |

Ticket booked on S2 code, however with the change in routing, web check in is not working.

Interesting - thanks for sharing. Might be time to get a *A FFP program going - perhaps TK might be an interesting option.
And talking about TK, here's what a random weeklong trip showed up as:

Oh THY are definitely a great option. The number of European cities they serve is astounding and, better still, there's no backtracking involved. The price difference compared to AF-DL-LX etc is usually significant too.
Unfortunately, the problem lies with where I want to go. Nantes is a busy-ish airport, but the only links that help with connections to Bombay are CDG and AMS (and BRU, but that would mean flying Jet, so no thanks). And I really don't want to do a train-plane-plane-bus concoction a la Jet Airways. Sp AF or DL it usually is - and they're just fine airlines. Nothing spectacular, but consistently above average. LX have come into the picture only a couple of times, when LYS/GVA are involved.
Though I've flown a few Star airlines on occasion in the past too, I've never been a Star fan (no real reason for it). I just used to credit my points (AF or LX or CX etc) to Jet, until JetPunishment became hopeless. _________________ four years free of jetya punti! |

I'm off again on my next jaunt to Houston . Had to choose this weird routing as I've decided to go back to UA as my FFP of choice, and they have a 4 "bum on UA metal" requirement .
The outbound on Friday was because our meetings start on Sunday (the joys of a startup)!
The Monday departure on the return was because Sat/ Sunday was just too expensive (more joys of a startup).

Yes. They do a ramp to ramp transfer. Considering that 9W doesn't get their flights in on time, 30 min is too tight a connection. |

No Nimish, I moved to GAU few months ago for good. This is just quick visit back to settle few thinks there.
BTW, I did take 9w 119 to come back. It was fine; but nothing special. Beacuse of big move paid loads for excess luggage!.
After reading so many TR here, I have finally made myself a promise to write one for this trip. Hope I can do it. Let me try!. |

A dream trip coming up next week.
I will be writing the TR as "All airbus Borat way to Russia"
Borat way because if you plot it on the map, it goes all across before reaching the final destination.
PNQ-DEL on 6E (A320)
DEL-MUC on LH (A346)
MUC-DME on LH (A321)
DME-LED on FV (A320)
LED-DME - Bullet Train
DME-ZRH on LX(A32x)
ZRh-DEL on LX(A333)
DEL-PNQ on AI(A321)
First A340 trip for me ... after admiring the A345 Leadership of SQ at SIN in 2004, I have been wanting to fly atleast one of the variant ! |

Fascinating journey - will take 6015 miles instead of the non-stop PNQ-DME distance of 3569 miles
If you don't mind sharing - how much was the itinerary? What made you choose this routing? _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Sure Sir. Hereafter I'll try to dot down at least few lines for each trip! |
