If Indigo prefers to send their 320s to Colombo rather than Hosur - so be it. That means either they do the job cheaper in SL, or quicker, or better or something. If airlines think it's more efficient to send their aircraft's abroad let them, the local AME industry (for lack of a better word) would have to learn to compete.
Now with this Lufthansa Technik contract i would assume they would set up an Indian subsidiary. I'm sure they would hire+train local talent. _________________ eP007 |

GoAir to double number of flights to about 1,400 a week in FY13
Aug 21, 2012
The Wadia Group promoted budget airline GoAir, India's fifth largest airline in terms of market share is planning to double the number of flights to about 1,400 a week, as it expands its network further by adding via or hopping flights on its existing network.
The airline will add one more aircraft to its fleet of 12 Airbus A320s this week, a senior company official told ET. Together with direct 720 flights per week on its network, the airline plans to offer 700 additional flights each week by the end of this financial year by replicating a strategy its peers have perfected in the market.
"We target more capacity addition through via flights from our base in Mumbai and from cities like Bangalore and other centres. Through this extension of network we will offer about 700 more flights per week apart from the already existing straight 720 flights on our network," said Giorgio De Roni, CEO, GoAir. The airline is in black for the first quarter of the current financial year.
The airline will also add some new cities beginning this week on its network, the airline honcho that joined the carrier in May last year said.
"There will be eight new flights from August 21 and the frequency will be increased on existing flights of Mumbai-Goa and new flights will be added to Lucknow from Mumbai and Bangalore to Goa while adding flights on the Lucknow- Delhi route. Another aircraft, joining the fleet on August 21, will help us increase flights and frequencies particularly from Mumbai to Lucknow to Goa," he said.
The budget airline has managed to maintain its market share of 7% (up from 5% a couple of months back) and company said that it will now try and increase its presence across the domestic network. GoAir is seeking more flights from the government to start flights to the north-western parts of the country and also to Chennai.
Increase in airport tariffs from Delhi airport are not essentially seen as a reason for backing off from expansion in the region. GoAir said it will add more flights out of Mumbai and will look to expand in cities where costs structure is low.
"We plan to further grow in Mumbai and hope to get additional slots from the city in January for flights to the north-western region of India as this region is where we want to grow further. We want to grow our presence in Jammu & Kashmir as leisure flows have grown up to this part of the country," Roni said.
"We will further expand in Bangalore, Chennai, Goa and Pune," said Roni, adding that GoAir will seek at least 800 flights (up from 720) for the winter schedule. Airline will submit its proposal to the ministry for approval in the coming months.
Though the shareholders approved fund raise plans in an extraordinary general board meet for GoAir (upto $250 million), Roni said that the airline is well funded and does not seek funds immediately.
GoAir has returned into profits for the first quarter of this financial year, however, the airline refused to divulge the specific numbers but said unlike some peers, the profits are from operations and not from any other stream.
"All I can say is that the airline has made profit through efficient cost structure that has made revenue to rise significantly as the volumes too have seen a rise," he said.
As the full service carriers cut capacity on the business class product, GoAir has benefitted from this trend as it is able to up its total revenues from this segment by over 200%.
"There has been an increase in the business class passenger traffic this has led to an increase of about 200% in revenues making the overall impact on revenues of five percent from this segment alone," GoAir said, though the impact of the rise in fuel costs has to an extent proved to be a dampener for this upsurge in revenue.
The airline offers eight seats of the first two rows (180 seats on its total fleet) for the business class as a differentiator of services offered on board.
GoAir has added overall 20% on its network (domestic carriers in total have added 70% capacity) as compared to the corresponding quarter of FY12 and will add more capacity as it adds another aircraft in January next year taking the fleet size to 14 by the end of this financial year.
"We are now following a cautious approach to growth and add another three to four aircraft by the end of the next financial year," Roni said.
As other budget airlines like Spice-Jet and IndiGo have strengthened international operations GoAir though does not fulfill the criteria of mandated 20 aircraft in its fleet has sought a waiver to the number of the aircraft needed to launch flights to international destinations.
GoAir's loads are not really up there as the airline managed about 79% of loads for the quarter, but said that increase in fuel costs led to depressing demand. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

It is absurd to count your via and connecting flights and say with 1 aircraft you will increase 700 flights or so |

GoAir seeks waiver of 20-aircraft norm for flying overseas
Aug. 21
CEO of the Wadia Group-owned budget carrier Go Airlines (India) Ltd, which operates services under the brand GoAir, Giorgio De Roni, today sought reversal of the Government norm of allowing only domestic carriers with a minimum fleet of 20 aircraft to fly overseas.
“India allows foreign airlines with one or two aircraft to operate international flights to India but does not allow Indian carriers to fly international,” he told a press conference here.
Allowing Indian carriers to fly overseas (by waiving this norm) would see “foreign currency coming to India, foreign tourists coming to India and additional employment,” De Roni said.
Besides a fleet of 20 aircraft, Indian carriers must complete five years of operations to be eligible to fly overseas.
GoAir, started in 2005, is constrained by the 20-aircraft-must-have clause for starting international flights as it has only 13 aircraft now. De Roni said the company planned to reach the 20-aircraft mark by July 2014.
He said the company has written to Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh to waive this stipulation, and hoped it would be agreed to.
De Roni, however, said he is yet to receive any feedback from the Government on the issue.

^^ Definitely makes sense to drop this requirement - it was lunatic to start with, and even more so at this stage and time with the Indian carriers losing money hand over fist. _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

GoAir will always reach the party when its over.
They missed the domestic expansion bus. Now considering how they are, they wudnt be trying out new routes if they get international but contrain themselves to the same old routes.
Btw, looks like they are pulling out of IXZ completely. Schedule is closed for sale in Sept |

GoAir opposes high airport chargest at Delhi Airport
News
GoAir CEO Giorgio De Roni said the carrier has opposed the high airport charges at Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport and sought intervention from the Ministry of Civil Aviation on the matter (mydigitalfc.com/Business Standard/The Hindu Business Line, 21-Aug-2012). “The charges are among the highest in the world. We have taken up the matter with the federation of the Indian airlines that has challenged the decision in the court," he said. He added, “Delhi airport is one of the most expensive airports in the world, and we are thinking twice before expanding our operations from there."
GoAir: “Delhi is definitely one of the most expensive airports in the world...There is no logic in the airport operator increasing airport charges for domestic carriers by 334 per cent in one year..The operator’s request was marginally higher — 700 per cent...High airport charges are a serious problem...Delhi (airport) is a problem. It is brand new and extremely nice, but the cost is extremely high. I understand that some foreign airlines are postponing increasing their capacity in India because they find the airport charges at Delhi too high...The funny thing is that in Delhi we not only pay for departing flights but also for arrivals. I do not know another airport in the world that does this,” Giorgio De Roni, CEO. Source: The Hindu, 21-Aug-2012. |

Interesting planning to have two GOI-BOM flights within hours of each other in the morning.
GOI-BOM at 6:55 and then again at 08:00
To the best of my knowledge, there isnt so much of a traffic in the morning on this route |

You answered the questions yourself- either spend a lot (hangars) and get slightly cheaper costs or outsource it for a tad more but don't pay the big sunk costs. Same reason they lease?

It's also up to the management to figure out when and how they want to spend their money. I don't think it's a question of confidence, it's a question of investment. _________________ eP007 |

They have a firm order for 72 A320 NEOs, according to this website.

|
Wadia Group-promoted low-cost carrier GoAir plans to expand its operations in the eastern region by the next fiscal. The airline expects its revenue from the eastern region to reach 15 per cent in FY15 from the current 10 per cent.
While the company will introduce daily flights to three more destinations from Kolkata next week, it plans to add three more destinations from here by March 2014.
“We will introduce daily flights to Ahmedabad, Guwahati and Bagdogra from Kolkata on February 4. These apart, we have met the regional director of the Airports Authority of India this morning to discuss three other destinations,” Giorgio De Roni, Chief Executive Officer of GoAir, told the media here on Monday. He, however, did not divulge the names of the three other destinations.
The airline currently operates daily flights to Delhi and Port Blair from Kolkata.

So my friend Delna flew BOM-AMD-BOM in GoBusiness last week. Besides the empty middle seat and food and other extras, there was a surprise at AMD airport:
- After landing, the FAs blocked off the aisle so the 3 GoBusiness passengers could disembark first.
- They were at a hard stand, so they went down the stairs.
- Instead of a bus, there was a car waiting to take them to the terminal.
- The people in Y had to use the buses, of course.
On the return, same thing. At the "gate" they were asked to wait on one side instead of getting on the bus. Within two minutes, a car pulled up to take them to the aircraft.
Does anyone know if this is a regular feature with G8? Or just a one-off? At AMD only? Or at other airports as well?
If it's a regular thing, then I'm officially impressed. And it's certainly not something one would expect in India or from an LCC. Just goes to show it can be done (Jet Airways, are you listening?).

This is a standard procedure at all airports which have vehicles allowed on ramps, i.e. BOM / BLR / AMD / DEL / MAA / JAI / CCU
Not so at PNQ / IXB - I believe
The dis embarking procedure is standard.
The car is Tata Aria |

Oh okay - thanks. Not bad, the Aria. It's not quite the Cayenne, but we are talking about an LCC, so any sort of personal transfer is an excellent premium offering.
Do any other airlines offer it? I've never had a car to take me between terminal and aircraft when flying business on Jet, whether domestic or international. I don't know anyone else who's even been provided one; even when flying First, it's the sardine can of a bus with everyone else.
I haven't flown AI/IC in J in many years, so I can't say much about them. _________________ four years free of jetya punti! |

Hi Jasepl,
I experienced exactly the same service at BLR last year. I think it was sometime in Oct 2012 and the car if i'm not mistaken was a Hyundai Sonata
Sorry I'm pretty rubbish with Indian cars. But all I remember it was more than comfortable for the 3 min ride and they had mini bottles of packaged water placed in the car.
Onboard they served us a 3 course hot meal, pretty good. But all at one go. No salad, entree, dessert one by one ka nakhra.
Of course the whole arrival experience wasn't the "QR Premium Terminal, BMW-7 series transfer to the aircraft steps like in Doha" but GoAir did very well at BLR and I was surprised by such level of service.
(On dept from Bombay boarding was done via jet-bridge, which was standard)
Yes I agree 9w must learn a thing or two from these little airlines. After all these years of 9w being in business they still don't provide chauffeur drive transfers to the airport for premium long haul pax let alone aircraft steps.
Even our poor Air India has started the EK/EY style limousine transfers for pax here. So its time 9w does the same too. _________________ Aerosexual...! |

Haha! And thanks for telling us about your experience.
It seems a personal car transfer is standard on G8, which, really, is a great feature.

Yep - ai.com says they offer it to F/J passengers on certain routes and to call to find out. No details on which routes, but it's something.
And Jet aren't simply sitting by... Don't they have bakdas on their buses now? _________________ four years free of jetya punti! |

G8 takes delivery of its first "sharkletted" A320 (MSN 5463) tomorrow. This will replace one aircraft in their current fleet.

Yes, it is in replacement of MSN 3933 (VT-WAO). Atleast thats what their permission from the DGCA states.
