|
|
The IAF is likely to float in two months a global tender for 126 multi-role combat jets in a deal believed to be valued at 9 billion U.S. dollars, says BBC.
However, the IAF needs to resolve procedural issues before floating a request for proposal for the aircraft.
BBc says it could be at least five years before price negotiations with the selected manufacturer or manufacturers is concluded and another five years before the firstof the new aircraft start arriving.
The IAF has narrowed it down to five aircraft: the US F-16 and F/A-18 Super Hornet, the SwedishJAS-39 Grippen, the French Rafale, and the Russian Mig-29OVT. |

Joy 10yrs to acquire 126 jets.. The IAF, and the Indian government need to get this deal done this year, and get these new 126 jets into the air force. Also the flying death MIG 21's need to be let go off!!
The government needs to get there hands out of this 126 jets order, and let the people high in post at the IAF make the decision, and just place the order. |

Maybe if they go for a 126x US made aircraft deal then it will definately put the nuclear deal on the proper track _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

I too saw that interview on NDTV profit. As i said earlier, with F-16s Lockheed Martin is shooting an arrow in dark. I am pretty certain that IAF will not buy F-16's. The order will be split between Mig 35's and between
1. SAAB Grippen
2. Eurofighter Typhoon
3. Raphael
4. F-18's.
My vote goes for Raphael followed by Typhoon. Well F-18 is last on my list.
By the way India is buying C-130J X 6 from them. I guess that's why he was smiling about.
Cheers

No. F 18's are useless for our Navy. The aircraft carrier that we have has a ski system and not like catapult that are used to launch US aircrafts. That's why we have Harriers, that can easily take off from a ski jump system. An F-18 doesn't have the correct combination to operate from a ski jump system. It would simply pop out of ski jump and dive right into the sea. The ship that we are currently building is also going to have a ski jump system. Hence there's no use in having F-18's. Harrier's and MiG 29's K and LCA are the fighters that will operated on these aircraft carriers.
Cheers
