The IAF is looking to fall back on the ancient art of ’falconry’ wherein trained raptors will be used to keep away large flocks of birds that have made an unusual and sudden appearance around the strategically important air-bases of Rajasthan and Gujarat, says a UNI report.
Last year's huge amount of rainfall in Gujarat and Rajasthan has led to an increase in bird activity in the area, says Air Marshall P K Mehra, the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C) of South Western Air Command (SWAC) today.
Mehra said the IAF was looking towards the ancient art of falconry as a possible solution to achieve a bird-free environment in the air bases.
Due to the heavy rainfall in Naliya (a forward air-base in Kutch) and Barmer, Jaisalmer regions of Rajasthan, birds of the sparrow-variety have suddenly appeared, Mehra said.
‘There are giant flocks of them and pose a danger to the fighters.

Maybe falconry is a cheaper option?

Same problem was faced by the GoI in North and South Blocks in Delhi ... but this time it was the Rhesus monkey menace. Tearing and running away with files, damaging the a/cs and biting people.

IIT-Delhi even suggested the use of high frequency sound waves to stun the creatures.

Finally problem was solved by bringing in the Hanuman langur. The monkeys just vanished.

There is a minder who walks the Hanuman around using a dog leash. Minder on the payrolls of South Block, while the Hanumans get a diet of ragi, bananas, milk, rice from the canteen.
