My apologies in advance for this rather irritating action of mine, but I have reached the end of my rope, so to speak.

With unbridled abandon some of our fellow AI.netters are opening up thread after thread after thread after thread ................

........ so I am adding one more, just to keep the mess going. Exclamation

As examples. There no less than EIGHT threads devoted to Jet Airways on the front page. Similarly FOUR on IndiGo. In fact there are TWO threads on virtually the SAME topic of IndiGo becoming the largest domestic carrier in July 2012. Confused Shocked Evil or Very Mad Rolling Eyes

The worst part is that most of the new threads are just copy-paste of internet articles. Very little original content.

This despite many industry gurus, insiders, and otherwise knowledgeable people present here.

I most humbly request fellow members to exercise some self control. We are adults, not some pre-pubescent children who cannot hold on to the "new topic" clicking.

Also moderators should be a little more aggressive in combining threads AND requesting then warning errant members.

Comments and constructive feedback is requested.

Thanks in advance.

Here is one thing that quickly comes to my mind, after reading your post on lot of repetitive threads:

Airlines are becoming rather dynamic in adjusting Frequencies/Capacities/Equipments over S/W schedules. Everytime these capacity adjustments are posted on Airline Route, they are quickly posted here as threads, sometimes multiple times. Maybe we could aggregate them in one single MAIN thread. Why not have 2 Separate 'Master threads' for Capacity Augmentation/Reduction - one each for Domestic Carriers & Intl Carriers.

Plus we could have one MASTER thread for DGCA related News.

I suggest we have a thread dedicated to each Indian flagged carrier. Similarly dedicated threads to the major foreign carriers operating to India. LH, BA, SQ, TG, MH, QR, EK, EY, CX, AF/KL, JL/NH, DL/AA/UA/CO, Others.
One thread dedicated to the monthly performance data, etc.
One thread dedicated to airports
One thread dedicated to policy. For example, about 6 months ago the MoCA asked for suggestions for Indian civil aviation policy. Why do we true aviation enthusiasts, only let CAPA and other lobby groups dictate the policy. Surely between all of us we can make sensible policy proposals.

The danger with megathreading is that it becomes difficult to find the information you are looking for in a thread. A balance needs to be found between organization and usability.

I agree, this is an excellent idea. Perhaps we could even take it further and make a publication out of it or so, like CAPA's Monthly "Indian Aviation Report"

Both the knowledge and passion for aviation can be found on this board...

Devesh, I'd like to make sure all members are aware of (and use) this very useful feature on the home page:

This link "View posts since last visit" is what I have bookmarked, and when I click on this link, it brings up all the threads that have new content since I last visited the site. This way - I get a view of all the new content (whether in new or existing threads), and at that stage it is no longer like searching for a needle in the haystack.

Coming to the topic of new threads vs. posting on existing threads, we mods are open to suggestions and would appreciate a draft "guideline" that describes when to open a new thread vs. posting on an existing thread.

For instance, does "6E now India's largest domestic carrier" deserve it's own (single) thread, or does it need to go into page 3 of "Indigo News - Part 3". If we can get members help on a potential set of guidelines to help this decision making process, then we (mods) can review and decide on them.

This can be easily checked - all one has to do is to send a PM to any of the mods and we can take care of the de-duplication.

I just read through the rules of this forum and we don't currently have any rules on this (posting in master thread vs. new thread) in place. Hence we first need to agree upon a set of guidelines, approve them, and only then can we enforce the rule.

This is a superb suggestion. And like all suggestions, it needs an owner, a participating team, a plan, a deliverable, dates etc. AI.net (as the forum) is more than happy to encourage and be a platform for such an activity. But we need someone to drive such an effort for it to be truly meaningful.
