Did you know that most of us connect our DVD players and TV via the RCA cables supplied by the DVD manufacturer? (red, yellow, white cable) The picture quality via RCA cables is equivalent to a VCD quality hence defeats the purpose of buying a DVD player.

I am trying to educate as many people as I can to convert their existing connections (provided both the DVD player and TV support component output). The picture quality is amazing once you view via component out put hence suggest to switch over to component video connection immediately if your hardware supports it.

Component output splits the signal into 3 luminance for better clarity.

Your wording is wrong here as both types you describe use RCA connectors. The first type you mention is called Composite with the Red/White/Yellow (of course only the yellow is video) connections and is probably the worst type to use for anything of quality.

As you mentioned, the other is called Component which is great as it splits the colors Red/Green/Blue (YPrPb) and then the same Red/White for the audio.

There are others like HDMI but it's late and I don't feel like typing all about that.

Nimish it is called Component Cable, looks very similar to the 3 RCA cables supplied by the DVD manufacturers, but color coded as red, blue and green. Basically this will just replace your yellow cable (provided by your DVD player) you will still need to keep the the white and red cable connected as the audio signal is carried through it.

I dont know in India where you can get as cable connection are least in priority chain as purcahse items but in Bombay u can try at Lamington Road the hub of all electronics. It is also know as YUV, YPbPr or YCbCr.

Picture of Component video.

My suggestion would be to best buy it on one of your tirps overseas. Also there are various expensive brands like Monster etc. & the retial stores will try to push you those. Mmy suggestion would be to stick to some good japanese/usa brand but need not necessarily be monster as they are way to overpriced and frankly its difficult to identify the difference in quality at a certain level.

What I still believe is that your TV should support Component Input to get the same video quality.

On similar lines, all the HD TV's which we buy in India are not ready to give the correct output as the cable tv input is not HD. Wonder when they are going to upgrade. I don't know if DISH TV and TATA SKY has any options.

Agreed but most TV's Manufactured after 2001 have component output and more or less all DVD Players come with it as standard.

In Singapore they have started HD broadcasting but they charge extra for the HD set top box hence still sticking with my old set top box besides I will also have to upgrade to a HD ready LCD TV to enjoy the full benefits...
