Stuff like this tends to be pretty cyclical. Forum's been reasonably busy over a number of years, and it's hit a couple of months of downtime. No biggie. Just the law of averages catching up.

Any ideas on how to increase members, discussions, post? Where do you think things may be going wrong?

Get Interested persons to participate....Maybe ask collegues/friends with similiar interests to join up & participate/debate.But for that there should be something Interesting to the majority else the number will be high only for a small duration at the start.....My honest opinion......Everyone is entitled to theirs....But I still believe that my observation is accurate.

Heavy Sarcasm on this forum puts me off. And I too, sometimes, have been one. Lets leave our personal dis-likings/Venting aside and make this forum a great place.

Cheers to the likes of Sumantra(Descriptive TRs)/HAWK21M(MX-Tech Inputs)/iflytb20(Flying Inputs and past Tech TR)/Nimish(Mod/FF/Overall Updates)/747-237 (Hes KCM No. 2), The_Goat for his Analysis and many others!

Just love the way Skyscrapercity India Forum has been going about. Admire the overall positive atmosphere and passion shared (relating to Development and Construction) there. Hope we can emulate that!

Please chime in with your thoughts on this..

Wow thanks, Rutvij! My rantings were inspired in part from an extremely descriptive AI 777 TR from you, which got me from my reverie after a few years.

Meljoe - I would beg to disagree here. My tuppence. I am just as satisfied with the current moderation group, as with the previous team. Each one of us has his/her favourite topic, which we like to read and post on, as Rutvij has so nicely mentioned above. Further, the point which many other members have also made - most of us read posts voraciously, but often do not post too much - I guess that is fine. For instance, Vivek Manvi and so many others post links to their superb pictures here, without as much of an appreciative comment from many of us. But this does not mean that we simply do not find those nice, or interesting. I find this forum with just the right amount of material, and of the right kind (as opposed to A.net, for instance). A little tiff here or there is fine, as long as things go witty, and funny, without any of the hate posts against a particular community or group.
Meljoe - specifically, you would see, hear and have access to stories (of course, the non-classified kind) about your workplace. For many of us armchair enthusiasts, the closest we get to a plane is from behind the glass-steel-and-concrete of an airport, or inside it, for a trip. Your job gets you up-and-close to many things an aviation freak would only dream of. I am sure you would have many stories about the past and present of Mumbai airport (like which corner of which hanger is supposed to be haunted), many things technical - we would love to hear from you.
In summary, I love being on this group, and like it that way it generally has been. I used to be a A.net reader, and have an occassional stumble on this forum. I then did a switch, as I felt it closer to what I liked, than A.net. Again, in read-only mode. Then I finally decided to join in, and have enjoyed this forum ever since. Rutvij has just enumerated a few of this things I look forward to, when I log onto the forum every morning, and some few time during the day, too!
Cheers, Sumantra.

I'd love to share my thoughts on occurances at the workplace/In the field that I can share....

I guess my use of the words in my posts earlier might not reflect exactly what I meant....

I was looking at more participation from more Individuals.Especially those interested in Indian aviation.Over the years active members joined/posted & moved on....Not many stayed back to build on the forum. There were some who did but the numbers were not what they could be.

It was disapointing to watch thousands of posters on other forums & AI.net was not building on its active member base.

I was thinking......What could get Aviation enthusiasts to contribute more in terms of Aviation data to this forum.....Unfortunately the numbers dont seem to increase.

I respect the views of the others that things are all ok & happy....But should we be content with this.....After the next 10 yrs,we will continue to be satisfied with the same state [Good/bad].....Shouldn't the forum be more active,& why we are not able to contribute to that activeness in spite of our regular posts is a question that has no answer.

Personally....I post on numerous forums & Aviation is a topic close to me not as a profession but also as an Interest. Its just a hope that one day Indian aviation & its fans will help get more discussion on Indian Aviation posted.

But as I said earlier.....I'm just hoping we dont stay satisfied with the start many yrs ago & be satisfied 10yrs hence with a mantained status.

I agree the forum is nowadays more peaceful, but its averaging 10-20 posts/day.....I'm guessing the stats here......Should that be enough.

I know many may not agree with my thinking here, but I still feel we have not reached where we had the potential to be at......Again not blaming anyone, because all of us may have tried in someway to increase the membership but have not worked out longterm, as most folks drop off posting after a few weeks.

There maybe many still only reading the news items....thats great.....But a forum requires debate/discussion......

Just my views....trust no one takes this personally.....Cheers.... Smile

Meljoe, you and some others may not agree, but I feel that the traffic on the forum is just right - not too low, and not too high. Either would deter many from staying on, and enjoying the forum. I include myself in the above group.
Cheers, Sumantra.

I agree with Mel that I'd like to see more participation and more inputs from folks with "inside knowledge" of the industry. Unfortunately that does not seem to be happening, partly due to the polarized nature of the Indian aviation industry. Folks on here have typically been either pro-AI and hence anti-everyone-else, or anti-AI and pro-someone-else. The moment we have "camps" like these, it can lead to a bashing fest (I'm guilty of that too).

Currently this forum has very few members from the "Pro-AI" camp left, most of them have moved on. Of course most of the pro-AI camp guys were really not working at AI, but generally friends and family of AI insiders - which meant their inputs were sometimes half-informed.

Perhaps we should create a pro-AI sub-forum here, where any kind of AI bashing would be banned, and that would help bring some kind of balance back here Very Happy (Of course I'm only joking here)...

Even the insiders we have on this forum, don't post information that's relevant, perhaps due to the confidentiality agreements they have with their employers. That can't be helped, and I would not encourage anyone to risk their jobs by posting confidential information here.

So what's left is the aviation enthusiasts who are either neutral or pro-liberalization (hence often anti-AI), and who are not insiders. That makes up a lot of the active posters, and the quality there is not bad. Could it be better - absolutely, but I think we're doing OK in the little niche we've painted for ourselves.

PS: These were my personal views, not that of the mods Smile
