Let me know if I'm missing any 'Stans.

^ Ironically, I could not find an airline with the word "Afghanistan" on it. ^

Or for that matter, "Hindustan".

Lovely set - thanks for posting! That being said the PK 747s don't really seem to fit into the set of exotic beauties Smile.

Here you go Nimish - the Pakistan 747 has been replaced with something more exotic, as has the Turkmenistan 757 !

Would have loved to have a TU-154 from Air Bashkortostan; sadly they don't operate any.
Their predecessor, BAL Bashkirian Airlines did, though they didn't have the 'Stan (Bashkortostan) in English, but rather only in Cyrillic script "Авиакомпания Башкортостан" on their aircraft.

LMAO Laughing

Maybe in keeping with the rest, that should have been a TU-154 as well, instead of a 777 Wink

There is (at least) one less 'Stan airline in the skies - Daghestan has been shut down earlier this week, and Tatarstan is to be merged with Ak Bars Aero (hopefully keeping the Tatarstan name).

It seems like it. They have a new livery.

Well, that IS the current livery, not a new one. My idea was to have pics of Soviet built metal (see above exchange with Nimish) & I didn't find a TU-154 in those colors.
The merger with AK Bars Aero is due in mid 2012 so this is not indicative of future name/livery.
Also, would you mind posting a smaller pic (if you really have to) so that it fits in the page width. Thanks.

I think the word is of Persian origin. But no, I doubt any of them know about its provenance.
