Took this as we banked left after taking off from rwy 28

** The photo shows the upcoming Terminal 3 and its four boarding piers in the middle left.
** The new rwy 11-29 is to the right along with the parallel twy and cross twy connecting it to the existing runways.
** Another full length dual carriageway parallel twy is under construction.
** Rwy 28 is to the extreme left of the photo.

cool pic! I think they will construct a parallel rwy 11L/29R between the double taxiway and single taxiway at a later time during phase II or III.

Is there an updated aerial version of how T3 looks now???

I also wanted to ask the same question.
@vt-ala, 11-29 was originally the fourth runway, right?
Where was the original third runway supposed to be?
Further, is the recarpeting work on 09-27 going on, along with the
re-alignment to make it parallel to 10-28?
Thanks and regards,
Sumantra.

Apologies... if this has been posted before.
Just noticed that Google Earth has updated their images for IGIA and CSIA.

IGIA... showing rnwy 11/29 and upcoming T3.

Holy Sh**! That displaced Threshold at IGIA is more than the usable Rwy length itself! Somebody should have slapped them when they boasted of the longest Rwy Claim.

Before you said that, did you get down to measuring the LDA and the displacement - bet you didn't so here it is for you.

Rwy 11
ASDA - 4430m
TORA - 4110m
TODA - 4110m
LDA - 3465m

Rwy 29
ASDA - 4430m
TORA - 4280m
TODA - 4280m
LDA - 2820m

The last figure is what interests you I am sure - an LDA of 2820 on a runway 4430m long sure doesn't sound palatable - but if I knew my aviation right, then the full length of the runway is required during takeoffs only and for that you have 4km plus available in each direction.

Coming to the LDA of 29 - let me throw some more numbers

A 744F (the heaviest regular aircraft operating at DEL) at its MLW requires a maximum of 7500ft of runway in the wet at an airport which is 610m above sea level. VIP has an MSL of roughly 236m - so the LDA would be even less.

If you want, I can present more numbers for landing distances required for any aircraft you want... take those into context before deciding that you feel like slapping someone.

Unless I am mistaken the ridiculous displaced threshold is because of the SHiva and upcoming Buddha statues intruding a few metres into the landing path funnel from the right end of the runway.

Nice. T-3 is shaping up really well.

vt-ala, can you update us on the completion status please? (i.e. what has been completed, what is under construction, etc)

The mandatory capital projects (essentially civil and engineering works) would be completed by 31 Mar. Finishing works have already started and these would continue over the next few weeks.

Baggage trials started in Jan 2010 and are continuing. From April - ORAT (Operations Readiness & Airport Transfer) trials with volunteers posing as passengers, airline staff, CISF, customs & immigration would commence to simulate all sorts of scenarios to test familiarity, preparedness and fall back systems & procedures.

Jul 3rd is most likely the date for inauguration and commercial ops will soon start after that.

Just to show how far DEL has come, here's a I pic I found via Skyscrapercity - shows Delhi somewhere in the early 21st century I guess. T3 and 11-29 are nothing but a field. T2 looks neat and clean and there's a B767, an Il-62 and what looks like an A310 on the far right. Any guesses on the airlines?

Looks like a Uzbekistan Il-62 and Saudi 777.

Looks like it might be the CSA/AI Hybrid A310 but I think the cheatline is too high for that.
