Mumbai Seepage caused by rain forced a five-hour closure on the airport’s terminal 1C Wednesday. The IMD said the Andheri observation centre registered around 70 mm rainfall through 24 hours ending 8.30 am Wednesday.
“There was some seepage in terminal 1C after a spell of heavy rain. The seepage was from construction areas adjoining the terminal. Remedial steps were immediately taken and the terminal was closed to prevent inconvenience to passengers. Boarding was facilitated through terminals 1 B and 1A,” said an MIAL spokesperson. The terminal reopened at 3 pm.
Terminal 1C had been opened April 21. It links terminals 1A and 1B so that passengers can board with the help of aerobridges. Terminal 1C can be accessed only by passengers of full-cost carriers like Jet Airways, Kingfisher and Air India.
MIAL said there was no impact on operations for the closure but airline officials said there was an “element of delay” because of various reasons. MIAL said the authorities had to switch off power as a precaution due to the seepage.

I don't know why this always seems to happen - not just at airports, but even newly constructed buildings/ hotels etc. Why is water proofing such a mystery to the Indian construction industry? _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Actually this article is dated 10th of June, so this must have happened on the 9th, and there were some pretty heavy pre-monsoon showers on that day, which left a good part of the city flooded. _________________ Causal Determinism : We are hardwired to need answers. ORD has suffered from water seepage/leakage problems in the past - concourses A and B, IIRC.
Cheers, Sumantra. |
