I have the following choices for my next trip - unfortunately traveling to the heart of OW territory - and LH is sold out (2.5L in Y!)

So having to choose between these airlines, which should I prefer? And should I get an American FFP account or a BA FFP account?

BA's website is totally hopeless - I can't for the life of me figure out exactly how many miles or points I'll get with the BA itinerary!

AA's is almost as bad. I'm comparing to LH and EK - both of whom have a nice miles calculator to figure out the number of miles earned on a particular itinerary!

The one drawback with AA - is that it's "paid alcohol" on board Sad. Plus the dreaded 2-5-2 in Y Sad. However they will probably be better in terms of earning miles and gaining some status, BA's traditionally notorious about not recognizing anything other than F/J pax! The advantage of BA is good friendly service on board, free booze/ meals, and 3-4-3 or 3-3-3 seating.

Note: the price is not a consideration either way - as I've got approval for the higher amount.

Definitely choose BA, they are better that AA by 1000 miles. You already named most of the benefits of both airlines, but the advantages of AA's FFP do not outweigh the disadvantages. Apart from 2-5-2 seating, service is horrible, baggage is frequently lost or delayed, and the seats do not have AVOD, just 5 or 6 channels of entertainment.

I flew AA HPN-ORD 2 years ago, and after a horrible cabin, though a friendly FA on one leg, and delayed baggage, I am happy that I have not flown with them since.

Thanks for the inputs airindia787. I think I agree with you - having been subject to a UA long haul recently (ORD-FRA), I think BA's probably a better bet than AA.

Any other inputs? I probably need to choose and ticket today.

OK - just read about the upcoming 12 day BA strike - if it's extended, I'll be in a soup! But might afford a bit of excitement Twisted Evil

Both suck...OW is really not great..I worked for AA..I would never fly thru LHR or ORD..Why didn't you just fly n/s or east bound??...During my stint at CO...i got most of my relatives to swear by CO...For US-India...i will always do CO...I'd rather be stuck in EWR or DEL rather than Europe..my 2 cents...Avoid AA

Thanks for your inputs guys, I've decided to heed your inputs and prefer BA over AA.

VK - I have no choice of flying CO, due to the need to stop over in LHR on my way to DFW Sad. I'd have loved CO too - esp as it's now *A Smile!

I have traveled with both and i would take BA. Its not excellent by any means, in fact i now never take BA to LHR. I used to be loyal to BA for LHR till 9W came along.

But as far as I can say, AA is a strict no no for me.
