I recently got my hands on this picture postcard and was wondering if anyone knew what "Maharashtra" was (State airplane / what year, etc ?).
VT-AUR seems to be an ex- AI bird. Any more info on this ?

Wow that's pretty awesome.
Did AI fly it in a similar livery? If so, you should send that photo to Andrew Klein at AeroClassics as a model suggestion. |

Where at DEL, Kabir? There used to be a skeleton of a C-46 Curtis Commando some distance away from Terminal 1A a few years back.
A yellow one is in the Air Force museum complex, as can be seen from the secondary runway. Is/was there another one?
Cheers, Sumantra. |

Here's a pic of VT-AUR apparently taken in 1949 when she was with AI. (note the "The Tata Line" titles).
The pic used for the postcard was apparently taken at Bombay in January 1978. |

The one parked at DEL was VT-AUT of the BSF. If I recall correctly, it used to be parked near the Vayudoot Hangar. |

Back in the days when India was a poor country and could not afford newer aircraft - this ex AI bird was used by the Maharashtra CM for travel around the state. I recall watching Vasant Data Patil alight from it at the IAF air show in Pune in 1982. All the DC 3 used in India (all govt. owned) were grounded by the Rajiv Gandhi Govt in 1987. |
