Today's announcement with Qatar joining Oneworld marks a new strategy where Indian based airlines are getting bypassed.

With Sri Lankan and Qatar on board, Oneworld has a large coverage in India without an Indian airline (big pat on the back to the Indian government and airlines! Truly remarkable!).

Who needs dodgy connections at BOM or MAA when one can change swiftly and easily at DOH or even CMB!

In some ways I agree, airlines/ alliances are happy to bypass India given the abysmal state of the overall aviation industry here. Massive hubs surround us - actual hubs, not pseudo ones like BOM.

If only the GoI could remove the blinkers and look at the reality - opening up aviation is essential for the country.

Whilst I don't think alliance membership would have made any meaningful difference to the plight of our airlines, I do agree that they're up sh*t creek.

What's fascinating though, is how they managed to navigate themselves so far up said creek without paddles.

And no, I still refuse to accept that the majority of the blame lies on others' shoulders.

ATF Prices, parking and navigation fees, costs , holding time before landing.....all are contributing factors.
