Times of India carries this article:-

and this:-

On the subject of misbehaviour in aviation, in and around India, lately.

To my experience, this happens also because there does not seem to be any proper law-and-order follow-up once the aircraft lands, or even at the terminals pre-boarding.
Time to start hiring bouncers from night-clubs as cabin crew. I have seen such muscled "Rambos" in the past on Aeroflot, Thai and BA flights, and believe me, they have an impact which is immediate. Even one decently behaved but visibly muscular gent per flight will fix many of these problems. As well as add to safety requirements, I may add, especially when we have cabin crew who are unable to even help hoist bags for elderly passengers into hat racks overhead. |

this is a common problem... especially with those passengers who fly often but of no real status but just try to throw their weight around... and if they are with less experienced colleagues they love to show off and make demands thinking its cool... starts right at check in where they pass smart comments and demand for the best seats/emergency exits and "request" for upgrades... but when turned down by experienced staff they will not hesistate in bad mouthing the airline and passing frivolous remarks about the staff attitude and the "past mishandled baggage" and other stories..
if its at the time of boarding many will just cut the line and walk right to the front or straight to the aircraft without bothering to offer the B/P for stubbing and checking.. when told to get in line they create a scene.. _________________ If it aint Boeing.. I aint going. |

Rule breakers should be arrested & things will cool down after an example is set.

Also remember the high-handed behaviour of VIPs. One such episode involved the prominent Maharashtra politician Ramrao Adik on an AI flight about 20 years ago. |

Has to do with inadequate communication skills.
Some LCCs have crew who can just about manage and fake the first initial welcome.
Then try and get them to speak a sentence or more and it's like listening to Greek and Latin.
The point is confident and articulate crew can tame even a really wild cabin. |

All progress happens at a cost. In the 60s,70s, airline travel was reserved for the elite, in the 80s/90s it expanded to the business segment and in the new millenium it has expanded to the masses.
So people have more access to air travel- but these are the same "common" people who do not obey traffic lights on the streets, or skip queues for the bus line or bribe their way with cops, or spit everywhere.
It is this "category" of people that is now flying-I do not mean to be elitist here - it is a demographical issue
This behaviour is bound to show up.
It remains interesting to see what other ways this will manifest itself..I just hope some crazy nut doesnt create havoc in the air and endanger air safety.
People still need to get a "feel" for the etiquettes of air travel. It quite aint like traveling on a bus or a Train.

Maybe, but you will hardly see this sort of behavior among Japanese or Swedes! People need to get manners and treat others with respect, not necessarily get a feel of flying.

The lack of communication is definitely a part of it, but the larger/main problem lies with the passengers and their attitudes. There’s no excuse for rowdiness in the air, just because it’s someone’s first flight or whatever is hardly an excuse.

100 % agreed ... however lack of education is a strong reason behind all this. They do not have manners to behave in the public ... no patience in the queues etc _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

Well we hardly have any rules to check road rage, so I doubt whether there are any laws on air rage and whether they have been applied at all.

Air India says that the rules that apply internationally apply for it as well on both the international and domestic sectors. This includes recovering the cost of landing from the passenger in case of a diversion.
IA is pretty tough too. Was witness to a "scuffle" between an IA aunty and a passenger on Delhi-Chennai a while ago. The guy was apparently texting mid-air (!!!) and what alerted her was the clicks.
She promptly snatched it and blew him up, saying "you could have killed us" to which he said he would have her arrested as he had political connections. Huge arguement and tried to snatch the mobile back.
Pin drop silence in the cabin with everyone wanting to see the live IFE.
Mid-air tamasha for about 40 minutes with the commander and co-pilot joining in later. Guy was finally met by ground staff and CISF at the aerobridge.
Was later let off with a stern warning. Saved in part because of his political links --- this is what the papers said the next day. |

On a domestic flight in the US, I forget if it was JetBlue or Southwest, I saw an air-hostess take a photo of a passenger using a mobile phone, I think it was a Blackberry working very well onboard. She then asked him for his boarding pass.
I don't know what happened next, but on disembarking, I asked her. She said she would fill a form, and after that it was up to the company, depending on many factors they could bar the pax from future flights on their planes or whatever.
I think the whole thing will soon get legitimised anyways, since technology exists to over-ride any possible dangers. |

Use of Mobiles in Air Affecting Nav & Com Equipment have yet to be proved. But since a Rule Exists it has to be followed.
In case of the Political connections guy.Just a stern warning is not enough this is what makes people take it lightly.
Make a noise & use the media & watch how his political connection would drop him like a hot potato.

But dude their males are almost useless. They even have large number of female bus drivers in Thailand.

Easier said than done. If he is really influential than the authorities might lose their job. But these days hail to the media for making an ant look like a hippo to fight an elephant _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld
