Good move - this is pretty much a standard already in India - for instance AFAIK, BA used to offer the same fares from BLR irrespective of whether you fly non-stop or via BOM/DEL! Only the taxes were additional.

Now lookslike AI and 9W are also going down the same route, and no doubt that IT will follow suit. This will help increase loads and convenience to passengers. Overall though, I'm guessing yields might come down marginally, but might increase due to increased loads.
