for a commercial jet yes.. the conventional diagram is correct however not all aircrafts store fuel in the rear stabilisers (depending if they are equipped with it or not and if the airline has opted for it or not) _________________ If it aint Boeing.. I aint going. |

Most commercial Aircraft of today use the "Wet wing" method.
ie mainly the Wing tanks on both sides & the Center tank.some use the Stablizer too.

Didn't Boeing once offer a fuel tank in the vert. stab? Either the 777 or the 747, can't remember which...I think 777 though. |

Well, I phrased that wrong. I do recall Boeing wanting to do this for the -200LR to give it greater range but I think the FAA didn't allow it so the idea never became reality. |

Having fuel in the THS.Also needs to cater to the CG Variation when fuel is consumed.

that is taken into account during the Load and Trim process. We OPS agents are trained on it. The loadsheet has it factored in and the range of COG limits is more restricted. During flight Ops the COG is maintained by the correct fuel flow and rate of consumption from the horizontal stabilisers based on the amount of fuel in the center tanks in order to keep the aircraft within the safety envelope and limits of trim at all times and stages of flight.
to my knowledge JAA JAR OPS terminology for fueling of the horizontal stabilisers and dispatch is called non-recommended/non-standard fueling procedure. There is also a particular ratio to which the fuel has to be pumped into the HS based on the amount of fuel in the center tanks. The exact amount/ratio i cannot specify. It also requires an important briefing and update of the cockpit crew and the captain has to tell the OPS agent how much fuel he will utilise in the tail tanks and how he will distribute the fuel load in order for the OPS agent to correctly interpret the data and trim the flight. _________________ If it aint Boeing..
