HAL facility to convert Boeings into freighter
India will soon have a dedicated global facility to convert passenger airplanes to cargo planes, with state-run aerospace major Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) planning a full fledged conversion centre for Boeing aircraft. This proposed facility will cater to the requirements of the international market as well as domestic demands.

Detailed report on the Airbus MRO in Tech/Ops section.

About the MRO: Airbus is in talks with HAL!Rolling Eyes Airbus also in talks with IA. Rolling Eyes
To add to this, Airports Authority of India in talks with IA for an MRO in Hyderabad!!! Rolling Eyes
Location for whatever comes out of all this talking as the final Airbus MRO is most probably Bangalore.

In the middle of all this chutney is further news that Essar Ruias are planning an equally large MRO in Trivandrum , which will get business frm the Gulf.

Ruias seem to have forgotten that Emirates is planning a gigantic MRO when it announces its firm order for 100 aircraft quite soon. (News on this in the International section.

I don't knwo about Airbus in talks with HAL but they have decided that after the merger, all IC engg will be Airbus MRO employees... many will be transferred to the MRO site itself

But this report implies that the whole thing about an MRO with IA is to be still decided Confused May be got to do with the merger issue with Air India.

A UNI report (Dec. 27) says that HAL has entered into an agreement with Pratt & Whitney to manufacture engine components in Orissa. HAL will set up a Rs 100 crore plant at Koraput and is expecting an annual business of USD 500 million in ten years from this initiative. HAL Chairman and Managing Director Ashok K Baweja says that Pratt & Whitney’s contribution to the venture would be in terms of ‘‘intellectual’’ by way of technical and training support. HAL will invest USD 20 million (Rs 100 crore) to set up the plant at Koraput. Business is expected to be USD 50 million initially and USD 500 million annually in ten years. The current orderbook position of HAL is Rs 28,000 crore and its expects to achieve a turnover of more than USD three billion in the next five years. HAL expects a turnover of close to Rs 7,000 crore this year (2006-07), up from Rs 5,375 crore in the previous year, the report says.
