Probably good for the pax carriers that have ordered the 380, Airbus will have to put more attention into that side of the house, and can stop dreaming about a 380F right away!
But I agree - this is definitely a shock for Airbus (not that they need any further shocks after the orders tally for 2006) |

I think the point here is that while for pax carriers the A380 and the 747 are in a totally different class in terms of capacity, this may not necessarily be true for the freighter versions. For the freighter versions perhaps, the wait nullifies any advantage the increase in capacity may have had over the 747F. Just my thought.
Also, as someone mentioned above it will free up the slots for the pax aircrafts, so some pax airlines may get their planes quicker.
Third point is that for pax airlines flying an A380 may also be a prestige issue and cancelling 380 order may make them look bad. But thats not the case with UPS or FedEx, because no one really cares if their cargo came in a 747 or 380.

UPS denies Airbus order termination
Wichita Business Journal - 1:50 PM CST Friday
by Atlanta Business Chronicle
source
rench newspaper Les Echos, citing unidentified sources, is reporting United Parcel Service Inc. might cancel its order for 10 Airbus A380 freighters.
However, Atlanta-based UPS (NYSE: UPS) denied the report. UPS Airlines Spokesperson Mark Giuffre said the company is not sure where the report of the possible order cancelation came from, adding the French reporter seemed to be "making suppositions."
"We are still in negotiations with Airbus and have not made any decisions or changes to the A380 order," Giuffre said. "We are still evaluating all our options."
In January 2005, UPS placed a $2.5 billion order for 10 Airbus A380 aircraft and holds an option to buy 10 more. But UPS officials told Business First in October they were re-evaluating the Airbus order because they were unsatisfied with production delays. The A380 program is years behind schedule because of problems with the plane's electrical wiring. UPS is scheduled to receive its first A380 in the second half of 2009.
UPS is Toulouse, France-based Airbus' last customer for the hulking A380s. FedEx Corp. canceled its order for the planes last year.
Les Echos claims UPS' cancellation could come as early as next week.
With a range of 5,600 nautical miles, the A380s are an integral part of UPS' planned growth in Asia and Europe because they can fly between those destinations and U.S. hubs, including Louisville's Worldport international air-cargo hub, without refueling. _________________

UPS denies A380F cancellation reports
UPS denied a French newspaper report that it plans to cancel its order for 10 A380Fs this week. The company moved quickly Friday to clarify that no decision has been made and that it continues to talk with Airbus regarding a revised delivery schedule.
