a) The roof of the "new" terminal extension area leaks buckets and at some places, like one security hold area, there was one foot water backed up. In addition, an extension that AAI was making near the cargo belt area, has suffered a roof cave in at time of construction. No injuries.

b) IAF has informed public that (subject some more issues) PNQ will operate for civilian flights for only 8 hours a day. This will be from September onwards. Expect a big rush at BOM, I guess.

c) VT-SPC/Spicejet "Turmeric" B-737-800 non-winglet has been on the bay for engine repairs for the last 4 days now. Saw people holding umbrellas over the Port engine last night. Spicejet's schedule seems to be shot out of shape too. This reduces PNQ capacity by 25% straight away.

d) Everything goes full in and out of PNQ lately. Typical DEL-PNQ fares are twice to thrice that for DEL-BOM. Flew JetLite last night, really late flight etd 2220, and even that was full up. Earlier IC and 9W flights were running full, too, sold-out at full economy and business fares.

e) Indigo doubles the DEL-PNQ and PNQ-BLR frequencies with a double daily on A-320 starting today. Also brings in a PNQ-Nagpur connection.

More details :

b) Starting Sept. 1 , civilian flights will be allowed from 10:30 am to 6:30pm.
This essentially means that the 3 a/c being parked in PNQ for the night will have ti shift base. Though parking can continue, airlines cannot afford to keep them idle from 6:30 in the eve to 10:30 next morning.

I think , now the first flight to land would be Jet : from CCU via BOM, Jet : From DEL , JetLite : from DEL.
Kingfisher going to loose a lot of slots. Majority of them are early morning/ late night.

c) VT-SPC is still there. Indigo ground staff told me , "there is some bada damage to their engine" 4 days more they said.

e) Indigo had some welcome boards for the new flight.
its DEL flight is via NAG connection. BLR direct.

Indigo seems to be doing really well and i do have high hopes for them 10 Airbuses already and with induction rate of 1 A320 every month these buggers are quitely sneeking up their way on the ladder.

Unlike Spice u get meals which is a big plus and the inflight meals are good . Lets see what new routes they open next month.

With air traffic to PNQ really surging, I would have thought it was about time some efforts were made to construct a state-of-the art terminal there. A heavily time and space-restricted location like the current one just will not do. Any chance of something like that happening in the near future?

Cheers

This sucks big-time for PNQ! I hope there's enough public opposition to this move and the airport is allowed to operate for longer hours. Or maybe it's time for Puneites to get their own private airport.

i guess the 9W aircraft will shift base from PNQ to Bangalore since it spends the whole day there (doing all the short hops to Mangalore, Coimbatore, Cochin and Goa)..but bad news for Pune - the airport is already a mess and in a restricted time scenario, it will be quite nightmarish

No chances AFAIK.

There is no land to build a new terminal / increase this one.
Whatever max was possible has been done.
Now wait for the chakan airport.

But once the Navi Mumbai airport comes up,
that would be easier to reach than chakan, because of the 6 laned e-way.
One end of which is the IT park in Pune & the other end is navi mumbai.

Well no matter how much the oposition would be, they will have to shut down the airport.
The reasons are many
The last recarpeting was done in 1987. Ideallt all IAF bases undergo recarpeting every 15 years.
And IAF would hardly listen to people, because they are shifting whole lot of Su-30MKIs from here so 8hrs time is may be the max they can afford.

Moreover, the condition of runway is really getting from bad to worse + add the AN-124 flights this runway has to handle, scheduled next year.
