DGCA declares City Pair traffic for August – Snippets of top routes in India
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in India, in a surprise move has declared city pair wise traffic for the month of August 2015. The data is a dream comes true moment for analysts and probably unwanted attention for the airlines. The data lists out 302 unique pairs where airlines in India operate flights and lists out the segment wise data for each sector. This data will help the newer airlines understand the market dynamics better and the existing airlines which have monopoly or duopoly routes could find some competition for them in near future.

Ameya Sir: thank you. This was exciting to me, for more reasons than one. More than the actual fats and figures (which I do not understand much), I look for the take-home points, and in this case, there were lots.
- First, the stark asymmetry in the traffic between some city pairs: DEL-HYD and HYD-DEL, in particular!
- The top-15 routes was an interesting tabulation, along with the complementary information about top routes from a metro. Brilliantly illustrative!
- RDG (KNI airport at Durgapur-Asansol). This is almost completely in concurrence with some circumstantial evidence. PNY is off the AI-R/9I network, and my guess is that RDG will follow soon, as soon as the state government sops stop. MYQ is possibly around for the same reason: state government guarantees and sops.
- Interesting stats for CDP. I was surprised that there was traffic, but then I hardly know much about the dynamics of this region of the country.
- Interesting BOM-PNQ market: something Jet had mined some time in the past with a 20 min block time flight on a B737, IIRC.
- Very interesting Guwahati-Imphal stats!
- RPR-NAG is something approximately commensurate with what I have seen over the years, travelling on AI 469!
Sir, thanks once again, for a superb article. Extremely informative, brilliantly illustrative, and superbly presented.
Cheers, Sumantra. |

Sir, Thanks!
This was one article which did not require any brains. Just conversion of PDF to excel may be
I was surprised with Durgapur - not for the lack of traffic but for those small numbers. . i wasnt expecting even as much ! _________________ www.networkthoughts.com |

cheers, Sumantra. |

May be you can post this information in the civil aviation section in the future, as not many go to this section. |
