Beijing – Delhi Service reduce from 4 to 3 weekly, A330-300 operation
CA947 PEK2040 – 0130+1DEL 333 136
CA948 DEL0245 – 1135PEK 333 247
Beijing – Mumbai 4 weekly service is cancelled for summer season

Looks like they're cutting flights and frequencies on other sectors too, but I though they just amped up BOM from 320s to 333s only recently. What's that all about? |

This is just daft. They closed a 3-weekly BOM-CTU-PEK A320 and turned it into a 4-weekly BOM-PEK A333 at the end of October 2015. After just over two months of the new route, they've decided they will shortly close BOM altogether!
What's more, I find it astonishing that there isn't a year-round non-stop flight to China from BOM. |

passenger traffic is very sparse and it is TG/MH/SQ that dominates this market. |

Flying TG/MH/SQ to China must add an additional 8 hours to that journey.
Desis are insane. |

I find it genuinely amazing that there isn't enough business traffic between Bombay and one of China's major cities to justify a non-stop. I suppose the big problem is that both countries have a lot of rather feckless airlines. |

DEL with its large catchment area will always appeal to any network airline . BOM's catchment area over a period of time has eroded with new airports in South India and non stop connectivity from there to Europe and the US .
There are a host of International Airlines which fly to DEL and have tried BOM and pulled out . EVA air is the next airline which will fly to DEL , again to feed its expanding US operation . |

But we're not talking about the Indian diaspora or VFF traffic here. We're talking about O&D between India's financial center and its catchment area of Gujarat and Maharashtra, arguably two of India's economic powerhouses, and China, the world's second largest economy.
I suppose CX carries a fair amount of business traffic between China and BOM, but the CA nonstop is only 6 hrs and 15 mins in comparison with CX which gets you there in about 11.5 hours. |
