A video trip report from my last DEL-BOM flight on AI.
Video Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXeJmfyW82o
I needed to travel from Delhi to Mumbai a few days ago and booked myself on Air India AI-102. This flight operates the JFK-DEL-BOM route, however, I experienced the domestic DEL-BOM sector only.
This is my trip report on Air India's Boeing 777-300ER operating a domestic flight from New Delhi to Mumbai. I hope you enjoy it. |

Thanks for the TR. It felt like actually being there. Excellent stuff.
The cabin and toilet look quite clean, for an aircraft that had just flown for 14+ hours from JFK. I have heard a lot of bad stories about the lack of airplane cleanliness on AI's ULH routes. Makes me wonder whether this was a one off, or whether the stories were the real exceptions. _________________ I don't know which is the more pampered bunch : AI's widebodies (the aunties) or Jet's widebodies (the planes).

Ranjan: let me echo The_Goat's words. Excellent video TR, with nice editing.
We need more of your presence on this section of this forum!
Some points:
- The runway you used for take-off was the new runway 11. I guess you are asking the viewer if he/she knows this or not. You took off from West to the East, and turned over some pristine Aravalli greens and farmhouses.
- AI B77Ls and B77Ws do not have power-ports under every seat in Economy. There are 2 power ports for a bank of three Economy seats. The Dream)liners have a power port under each Economy class seat.
- The amenities are almost the standard Y class amenities for a long-haul flight.
- The snack looks good! Self-stirring tea: ha ha! The cup is the awful flimsy plastic tiny cup.
- Nice landing video in rainy weather on runway 27, with the Vihar lake visible in the background, and a wee bit of the Powai lake as well.
Answering The_Goat's question:

I have heard a lot of bad stories about the lack of airplane cleanliness on AI's ULH routes. Makes me wonder whether this was a one off, or whether the stories were the real exceptions. | Three points:
1. The plane need not have flown all the way from JFK. AI 102 is flown by an aircraft that needs to be rotated via the BOM heavy Engg base. It could be a B77W which has come back from JFK on AI 102 itself, it could be a B77L or a Dream)liner resting at DEL, it could even be an A321 on a rare occasion. It could be a B744 back from a VVIP trip that needs to go to the BOM base, for some very lucky passengers.
2. Whatever plane it is, it is cleaned pre-flight AI 102 DEL-BOM. If it is the very plane that has done JFK-DEL, it comes in around 2:30 pm, usually, if not a bit earlier. There is enough time to do a thorough cleaning of the plane.
3. A clean/dirty plane after the 14/15 hour JFK flight: I have seen both, though a cleaner one more often of late: in the past few years. Decent passengers, and a pro-active crew helps. All of my 2008 and beyond- experiences on B77Ws and B77Ls have seen very clean to reasonably clean aircraft even after a long haul. My worst experience has been on the KUL-MAA leg of AI 442 SIN-KUL-MAA-BOM, where I felt ashamed to be an Indian. The A310 `Saraswati', had been reduced to a giant rubbish bin, with dirty toilets as well.
Cheers, Sumantra. |

Thanks for the clarification.
Yes, the A310s were real bad. I remember flying BOM-MAA on one, many summers ago. It was worse than a sunreserved train compartment that had just finished a Jammu Tawi- Kanyakumari route. _________________ I don't know which is the more pampered bunch : AI's widebodies (the aunties) or Jet's widebodies (the planes).

When I was traveling to Kolkata in 2013, I noticed upon arrival at IGI terminal there was an announcement, and everybody was asked to disembark. Even passengers going to BOM had to do that. Perhaps at this point they clean up the aircraft and prepare for domestic traffic loads. It is a good practice! _________________ Sabya99 |

What a nice video TR enjoyed watching it on my large screen TV.
The Oman Hayer was a good catch seems like this airline is all over the place as I see other forum members posting the pictures as well.
Overall the plane seems well kept with clean toilets and plenty of food. The self stirring tea during turbulence was hillarious.
I never knew that Air India 777-300 had camera views so good to see the remote bay parking with guidance.
Thanks for posting the TR. |
