I was very eager about writing this trip report since there are a very few on Mangalore(IXE). This report covers IXE-BLR on 9W. I had to attend a friends wedding on 21st Sept. So after going through the options available (a very few to be precise. Only SG, 9W and AI regional operate on this route).
9W seemed to be a perfect option as per the time and fare. So the booking was done through 9W website. Easy and efficient.
20 Sept 2014 IXE-BLR
Jet Airways 9W 816 Boeing 737
Seat: 29F
ETD: 16:15 ATD: 16:10
I reached the mangalore international airport at 14:45 for the 16:15 departure. I just had a mobile boarding pass. The friendly CISF personal denied entry into the terminal without a print ticket with a smile . In a hurry i had left the ticket at home. Had to get a new one from the jet airways counter with a payment of INR 50. Check in was smooth. I only had one hand baggage. After security i was airside by 15.20. At around 15.50 boarding was announced. At first it was from ground level then all the passengers were asked to proceed on to level 1. Thank god the aero bridge was being used since 9W 816 does IXE-BLR-DEL route.

Infight:
The snack service started soon after reaching the crusing level. This is a very short flight of around 35 minutes. The box had a piece of plum cake and brown bread coleslaw sandwich accompanied by a bottle of water. It was very bland and cake was very low on sweetness. I wasnt complaining as its a very short flight.

I dint complete my snack and captain announced descent into BLR. It was a bit bumpy landing. Soon we were taxing towards our parking bay. Here are the few birds on the way.

Even though we have a very prominent member on the forum, whose in-depth analysis and route planning and economics knowledge we love to admire (the one-and-only Abhijeeth!) I regret that we do not get trip reports from him, from a place he calls as one of his bases! Bajpe, Mangalore.
Mr. Kini, thank you very much for a TR from this exotic locale. Your surname tells me that you would be a Konkani hailing from a region close-by, in Karnataka. Thank you for some lovely pictures, both of the IX birds at Bajpe, as well as those from the flight. The snack seems perfectly reasonable for the duration of the flight, and much better than Air India's hot beverage-with-Marie-biscuits offering. Actually, I like cakes which have oh-just-a-touch of sweetness, it helps me appreciate the goodness of the other ingredients better, rather than pampering to my sweet tooth. Was the plum cake the one which my Keralite Christian friends love to bake, on Christmas? Oh...I love it.
Thank you once again, for sharing a report with us!
Cheers, Sumantra. |

Thank you once again sumantra sir. U are absolutly right. I am Konkani hailing from mangalore.
So even i share the same base as abhijeeth.
Since it was a was a mere 30 minute flight the snack hit the right spot. As per the taste i prefer AI sandwiches which are always generous. Cake was a bit low on sweet. May be it was done so to pleas everyones taste buds.

Hi Pradeep - how was the drive from town to IXE airport? How long does it take, and are there buses as well, or only cabs? How's the crowd at IXE airport? _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Nimish the drive from mangalore to the airport is around 30 minutes if the traffic is in ur favor.
Or else it usually takes around 45 minutes.
Before there used to be Karnataka state transport Volvo's but now they have been cancelled.
Private buses do operate this route but not good to travel along with luggage as it commonly has local travelers.
Well to be frank i am not so sure of what the cabs charge as i neva took any.
Well IXE airport sure has a lot of crowd. Its like for every single person traveling there are at the least 10 people to see off |

Great report & thanks for sharing
And.. it feels great to know about another "Kini" in the #avgeek fraternity
Just 1 question, did you try showing CISF the ticket or boarding pass on your cell phone? Am flying down to IXE in Feb and if the former is not allowed, I will carry the print out then.
