How is everyone dealing with it?

Here in France, a lockdown has been in place since March 15th. I've been working from home and we go out once or twice a week to get groceries. Whole cities have emptied with everyone staying at home, and it looks very depressing. It is usually so lively at this time of the year and the weather has been great too.

What's it like in India? Is the lockdown effective? I've been hearing stories from my folks about the air becoming cleaner, and people hearing birds singing for the first time in many years.

I left India on February 26th. I would consider myself lucky that I didn't get stuck there.
When I landed at CCU on Feb 5th from DOH, the only folks I met with face masks were the Buddhist pilgrims arriving from Thailand. I didn't pay much attention except the fact that Immigration officials were not allowing passengers to come close to them.

While in India no sign of face masks or any sense of panic.

But on Feb 26th at CCU, the scene was much serious . Lot more people wearing face masks. But in DOH transit area I could feel the global impact of Covid-19. I was in the miniscule minority who were not taking any kind of precaution though no one checked my temperature or things like that. Once inside the aircraft (773ER), I found a group of Iranian passengers with full gears who were going to surround me for next 15 hours until we reach YUL. By that time world came to know about Iran's widespread death toll due to Covid-19.

Anyway I am back in my small city YWG. Up until now, we have 6 deaths and about same number of people in ICU due to Covid-19. There is talk of gradual opening of my province's economy pretty soon.

I am coming to work everyday due to semi-essential nature of my job. I am not wearing any face mask yet, it's not mandatory. People who lost their jobs due to Covid-19, Fed government is paying them CAD 2000 per month almost no questions asked. That is creating a group of people to earn more being unemployed than while working!

I am worried about what world economy will look like post-Covid-19. Covid-19 is going to be a great leveler, taking out lots of slacks that cheap money has created everywhere. Hope I can still find cheap tickets for my annual trips to India Very Happy
