Malaysia is just embarassing in terms of frequencies.

And Singapore is atleast face saving, but definitely not great.

Thanks for the analysis!

Once again, a great analysis Abhijith! Hardly any growth during the last 10 years for AI on the SIN sector. The capacity has remained more or less the same.

Considering the number of tourists visiting Malaysia, it is shocking that we have only 4 weekly flights to KUL.

Waiting for your BKK analysis. Smile

KUL could certainly do with more flights from India. 9W had a daily MAA-KUL until a few years ago but pulled out, and I assume AI too had a service dating back to their A310 era but seem to have pulled out in the years since.

This is the most opportune time to resume KUL. With a weak MH, the prospects should be great.

I also hear that there is a cap on the number of flights between MAA and KUL. I wonder if this is affecting any new services,

Sorry Mr. Basheer for the oversight. Full credits to you for the excellent analysis. Would certainly like to see a few more of these.

Cheers!

Great Analysis. KUL indeed has great opportunity now with people option airlines other than MAS, AI could make connections work on its hub via DEL or 9W via BOM.

Thank you, Basheer. Nice analysis.

You haven't included Thailand in your analysis. Was that deliberate? Sorry for nit picking Very Happy

I wonder why SG have not looked at SIN?

and also wonder why Indian carriers seem hell bent on giving Malaysia a miss. The country with the largest Indian diaspora in SE Asia and no Indian carrier wants to fly there. Isn't that weird?

Nice Analysis Basheer.

If I am right, the SIN-TRV MI flight is on a 319 or has that changed?

As a feel good factor do include Vietnam in your analysis, probably the only country where Indian carriers outshine in this region. Smile

Actually 6E got approval on TRZ-KUL and TRZ-SIN long back. So did SG on IXM-KUL and IXM-SIN. SG ran into rough weather after that. 6E decided not to fly those routes for unknown reason.

MI operates 2x A319 and 2x A320. Edited the total seats accordingly.

While the gap between ME, SEA carriers and Indian ones isn't as large as I thought. Non Indian carriers seem to have 50% more seats than Indian ones. I think this really speaks to the main issue. We have given non Indian carriers enough seats to play in BOTH the O&D and 5th freedom markets. This way the foreign carriers can keep O&D fares low and undercut Indian ones and still have extra space to price 5th freedom low. This was really the mistake by the GOI. Its the perfect storm that allowed the foreign carriers to get rights but still make it look like the Indian carriers needed more seats. Going forward the GOI should freeze ME and SEA seats and allow fares to rise and/or partnerships to develop between foreign and Indian carriers. This should be the path forward. But its almost like the foreign airlines demand at least a 50% differential between what Indian carriers can use and their allocation (thus perpetuating the pricing situation - I think we can all figure out why this 50% differential needs to exist). Aside for stunted airline job growth the policy of the GOI has almost encouraged Indian tourists to travel abroad for cheap family trips rather than in india. Another big fail. Domestic tourism can be a big driver of economic growth (see the US). But sadly neither the GOI, the Indian tourism industry, indian airlines or aviation enthusiasts feel this is important - just as long as EK brings the A380 to India, then we are golden.

Great analysis. Malaysia is severely underserved by Indian carriers, they have allowed the Malaysian LCCs to take over. There is no sector so lopsided in favor of foreign carriers. I am sure the Indian LCC's can serve profitably from MAA, TRZ and other cities.
