Yuck! What's not mentioned is whether he was arrested due to a victim complaining or was rounded up during a routine internet monitoring/ scanning activity?

Thailand is especially notorious for this kind of tourism, and actually come to think of it - India is full of underage girls (rarely hear about boys) being pushed into the flesh trade - esp. from Nepal/ Bengal etc. Equally disgusting and done in broad daylight here in India with hardly any arrests/ convictions despite the brutalities involved Sad.

Hopefully some Indian newspaper picks up on this news.

We need more awareness of such things that happen close to home. More than awareness, we need to acknowledge that it can and will continue to happen and t is not something that happens in other countries!

And to think some favour the unilateral action of implementing VoA for Americans.. (although the nationality is different in this case)..inviting anyone from the stuff-shirt MNC exec swigging Kinley/diet Coke and traveling in Landcruisers/Innovas to the hippie backpacker who just comes to Haridwar/Rishikesh/Pushkar to get high on sex and recreational drugs.

I suppose as long as there is poverty, such things will continue...but technology that makes such acts possible, can also be used by our police to prevent such incidents!

A few years ago I was transiting BOM, and was waiting during the wee hours of the morning in Santa Cruz for my domestic connection. I happened to notice a westerner, about 45 -50 years of age, with an Indian girl who couldn't have been more than 16 years old. They were together at the check in counter, holding hands.

She looked the typical jhopadpatti type, was wearing rather flashy clothes and was supremely confident, talking to the airport staff on first name terms. Had a great figure as well.

I didn't pay any more attention, but later, post security, I saw them again. The foreigner was busy looking at a shop window and I overheard the girl talking to a guy who was wearing a loader's/helper's uniform with the logo of a leading private airline. The conversation went as such

Guy: (pointing to the foreigner, and in a teasing voice) "Woh kaun hai, re?"
Girl: "ek aur mama hai yaar! kal hi pakda. Goa le ja raha hai mujhe"
Guy: "chal aish kar"

Sure as hell, this chick was not being trafficked and seemed quite happy with what she was doing.

So I wonder how many of these 'big boys' the BA captain was frolicking with, were actually willing participants, doing it for the money. And their ages don't mean anything. It is horrific how precocious even 14-15 year olds are these days.

I guess that at the end of the day, as star*gold mentioned, it is just poverty and the lure of cash that makes these kids indulge in such behaviour, and the sex tourists just take advantage.

Wow - talk about missing the point. Do the Indian rapists of young under-age girls also do it because of the VoA? And do you think the visa granting officer at the Indian embassy in NYC or SFO is going to do a detailed profile of each applicant and filter out potential sex offenders? Jeez!

Not that there's even the slightest connection between the two, but still...
