The MMT charter operated by Jet was operated by VT-JGY - which was a horrible bird. The details are here VT-JGY to Leh

Like you mentioned LEH is a bit over 10,500' msl. the 737/320 are generally limited to a lower runway altitude- only a few are certified for the high altitude airports so I guess they just send the same a/c back and forth.
Apart from dirty windows (worst thing) and old interiors didn't seem like that terrible a flight.

Looking forward to the holiday part of the TR.

Another very interesting TR, Sir!
Thank you for the perspective on IGIA T3 at night: the A/C turned off in parts. I have seen this at the bus gates (42A/B/C) in the past (but thankfully, not now), which get quite stuffy. They also turn it off in parts which do not have too many flights. It does not make it convenient for connecting passengers, or those that come in early.
`Flight mode before switching off': I guess what they mean is that the phone has to be switched off come what may, till the plane gets to cruising altitude, and then, the use of the phone is permitted, much like laptops and personal music systems. I do not know why.
Sir, please also tell us on how charter flights are booked, with the airline, and on MMT, for instance. I would like to know more about this!
Thanks once again, Sumantra.

I feel that GMR should make some sleep pods available at domestic gates. Not sure how economical it would be to have 6-8 pods. I am sure atleast 50% would go full at the right cost. But in these days of cut throat sales and competition, people may say that the pod is going to cost more than the flight !

The charter flight can be booked directly, eg: Sumantra Sir approaches Jet airways and says I want to book a charter for this date and this sector and I would have these many passengers.
Jet will give a quote and if Sumantra Sir is willing to pay as much the charter is booked.
Atleast 3 days prior to charter, you will have to give the passenger list along with the relevant details which are required for booking a normal ticket.
Pax-PNR combination is generated for the flight and the manifest will be shared with you. However, you cannot legally sell seats on this flight.

The other way is that a consolidator, like MMT, requests for a charter and Jet gives a quote. On agreeing, the flight is treated as an additional flight, closed for public sale. Since charter cannot be sold again as per rules, it is treated as additional flight but closed for sale. A block booking is done similar to group booking and all PNRs are assigned to MMT and names added about 3 days prior to the departure.
MMT knows the max seats it can carry and sells as many packages and sends details to Jet about ticketed pax who directly go to airport and check in as if its a normal flight

Thanks Sir for the tutorial: it is wonderful that you could manage a large group of people to fill a B737-700!
Cheers, Sumantra.

But if airliners india team wants to charter and go somewhere - I can volunteer to negotiate and get a good rate for all of us. How is the plan ?
