I was flying from Mumbai to Brussels on 14th June 2015 on Jet Airways 9W 228. I boarded the flight and was seated in the first row. Since it was 1:50 am when i boarded i fell asleep thinking that when the aircraft would depart i would be woken up to make my seat upright and fasten my seat belt. At 2:30 am my eyes opened and heard some screaming and the flight had not taken off.

The story i heard is, there was a man who came in to Mumbai on a flight from Colombo and was an international transit passenger. He was peacfully waiting outside the boarding gate for Brussels. He did not have a boarding pass for the Brussels flight. After 70% of the flight was boarded he pushed the staff that scans the boarding pass and aggressively ran into the aerobridge and pushed the security outside the plane door and ran into the plane and locked himself up int he lavatory.

The crew and security ran after him and were knocking on the door but he refused to open it and finally the staff members had to unscrew the door from the outside and dragged the man out of the plane. The scene was very dramatic.

Since there was a security threat, they had to sanitize and check the lavatory thoroughly and flush out all the water from it for security reasons and refill everything. Security on board cross checked all the hand bags with every passenger twice on the plane.

When checked the persons details he was flying with a fake passport from Colombo and did not have a boarding pass for the Brussels flight. Some passengers got scared and 5 of them offloaded. Then we learnt that the runway was closed till 4 am. Finally our flight took off at 4:20 am.

All of us on board were shocked with what happened but thanks to Jet Airways, the cabin crew and the captain who dealt with the situation very well and only took off the flight after everyone on board felt safe to fly. But Mumbai Airport needs to beef up the security for International Transit , atleast a passport check i must say and a valid boarding pass.

Indian authorities usually wake up after an incident/accident. I hope an incident like this does not happen again and procedures are put in place from now on.
