For those of you like the tech-challenged Yours Truly, who have been almost devastated by Google's decision to hide the actual picture URLs, here is some great help from Nimish and Ameya, that will help you.
If one wants to post pictures inline on this BBCode-based forum, one needs a link to the actual picture URL, and not what Google Pictures (the earlier Picasa) now gives us. In Nimish's words, ``the URL does not include a standard image extension, but the browser understands it's an image (based on MIME type in most cases) and renders in properly. Our hosting site expects a .jpg extension or similar to allow an inline image display.''
Nimish, thank you for the technical details!
Ameya has a great solution, he points out that Flickr can still give the actual URL, if one manually sifts through the link given under the HTML option. I wonder if there are other options as well, since photobucket with its bandwidth restrictions, is horrid. This is something that affects all of us trip report enthusiasts, and those that post images inline.
Thanks, Sumantra. |
