Having known IXU very well, I can make this statement that there is no demand for 180 seats - 3 or 4 times a week for DXB at all.
Even if we consider that it will take away all the connecting traffic from the region, then also doesnt make sence.
If you consider the potential of the region around and consider then probably still NO !
Why not PNQ ? ! |

FZ has gone ahead and made statements that they are looking at various airports for starting flights and that include even airports like JLR !!!!. So maybe in the mext 10 years, this can materialise. _________________ Rajeev |

I don't know about Aurangabad specifically, but new services often tend to stimulate demand.
It might not work out in the end, but EK have deep enough pockets and it is a short enough flight to make the experiment worthwhile. _________________ four years free of jetya punti! |

Perhaps they are employing a longer term perspective on India? ATQ 10 years from now may see EK mainline aircraft land out there - there certainly is demand - and FZ in the meantime can stimulate demand from these tier 2 cities, if you can refer to Aurangabad as such. _________________ Yeah. |

I don't think anyone is expecting to draw tourists from Japan and Poland to Aurangabad. Ajanta-Ellora are nice and all, but really not worth flying halfway around the world to see!
Rather, the primary point would be to link Marathwada with Dubai for local traffic. All the onward connecting traffic or the car traffic nor whatnot is just a bonus.
And really, we shouldn't be surprised Emirates are looking at the likes of Aurangabad and Ratnagiri and Bhavnagar; I'd be surprised if they aren't.
It's entirely possible that several years down the line, some of these places will indeed have flights to a Middle Eastern destination on a Middle Eastern airline. And our airlines still wouldn't have bothered to link the very same places with a half decent schedule to Bombay. _________________ four years free of jetya punti! |

A lot of tourists from Japan and SE asia do come to IXU for ajanta and ellora every year and there was a demand to start direct flights to Japan from IXU !
All this at a time when flights to BOM go empty ! |

Haha Yeah, of course. What I mean is that it's a nice place to visit as part of a larger itinerary. But I doubt there would me many (if any) people who fly in just to see Ellora and then fly right back to Tokyo!
As for the demand, in all likelihood it was some tinpot local politician or some Rotary Club subcommittee or something. _________________ four years free of jetya punti! |

Reading the article more closely - it seems to be based on an article in the ToI. Of course we know what that means.... _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Hahah! True.
Toi Wallah : So, tell me Mr FZ, would you consider flying to Aurangabad?
FlyDubai: Of course. We don't rule out any place. Except Tel Aviv, of course.
It's entirely possible that "conversation" got turned into "FZ to fly to Aurangabad".
We've seen the Trash do it before. _________________ four years free of jetya punti! |

Yes, Ameya - I have done this route quite a few times on IC/AI, and have seen a good tourist load on the segments.
Cheers, Sumantra. |
