Qatar Airways joins Etihad in hunt for stake in India's carriers
Jan 13, 2013
Qatar Airways is interested in purchasing a stake in an Indian airline, its chief executive Akbar Al Baker said.
The carrier is not studying any specific purchase in India at the moment, where changes to rules curbing foreign direct investment from airlines have spurred interest in the market, Mr Baker said. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

Just muddying the waters? Or some serious interest? I guess only time will tell! QR just sold their stake in Cargolux - so they're not necessarily in for the long term... _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Make money by investing in the aviation business? Wow - that's something new . But yes a cargo carrier is probably the best bet in that regard. However why does QR need to worry about money - isn't world domination AAB's goal? _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Spice is better placed for investment. Who gives a better valuation to the Marans needs to be seen. I am sure Marans would be ok with minority share holding and letting the Foreign airline take 49% and be the largest shareholder |

Qatar Airways denies SpiceJet deal talks
Hints possibility of investments after regulations and laws are properly liberalised
Jan 15, 2013
Qatar Airways has denied it is in talks with SpiceJet to acquire stake in the low cost airline.
“Qatar Airways categorically denies it is interested in investing in SpiceJet or any other Indian airline. This is pure speculation by individuals who deliberately want to spread such unfounded rumours to raise the stock value of their entities," the airline's chief executive officer Akbar Al Baker said in a statement.
“India is a huge market and a potentially lucrative one. While we have expressed interest in expanding our presence in India, we will only be interested in any potential investment once we are sure regulations and laws are properly liberalised. I can confirm we are currently not talking to any Indian airline,'' he added. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.
