Strike at Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal 3 in Delhi, India, disrupts flights
13-Apr-2012 01:35:10 AM (GMT) The Hindustan Times reported all flights are severely delayed at Indira Gandhi International Airport's Terminal 3 in Delhi, India, on Thursday night after workers who operate passenger-boarding bridges began a flash strike. Thousands of passengers are stranded because all Terminal 3 flights are accessible only by jetway bridges.
Delhi International Airport, Ltd., the private airport operator, is attempting to clear the backlog of flights by using buses and step ladders to transport passengers to their respective aircraft. However, the majority of flights will be delayed by hours because there are not enough buses or ladders to maintain current schedules.
The disruption is affecting many international flights, the news source indicated.
One passenger who was set to travel to London Thursday night but has now been stuck at IGI for more than three hours said airport workers are providing little information.
The aerobridge operators reportedly have gone on an indefinite strike to protest non-payment of salaries.
A DIAL official said talks are under way and the issue was being resolved.
Until normal operations resume, passengers planning to fly into or out of the affected airport should contact their airline well in advance of departure to confirm flight status. |
