Mods: I am sure this needs to be in TRs but when I try to post there I get the following error 'No Post Mode specified' hence added here. Please move as appropriate!! Thanks.
This is not a TR but a second hand account of what my parents experienced at the hand of JetChildren!!
Disclaimer: This was the first time they were flying. Any feedback/ comments need to be taken with a handful of sea salt as they do not have a benchmark to rate with.
Itinerary
07JUL 9W489 0635 MAA 0820 BOM
07JUL 9W118 1255 BOM 1755 LHR
Web Check-in
I did the web checkin for my parents. Selected seats 5A,B due to personal experience and also after reminded by a post here so as to avoid the early morning sun on the starboard side. Thanks to the post author, don't remember the member name. SORRY!
Waited until 1255 to perform the intl check-in. Noted that most of the (good) seats were selected by then. Got into thinking if in Y cabin, would most of the passengers be Platinum/ Gold members to have selected the seats 48 hrs in advance??? Or if I had booked the tickets through JetAirways.com will I have the privilege of selecting the seats as part of the booking process? Anyways settled in for seats 52A,B.
Leg 1
Pre-flight
Uneventful CISF face recognition - Check-in - Security and boarding. Few observations here - though the MAA BOM was a domestic departure, the Emigration cards were distributed during check-in at MAA itself. They got bussed to the a/c and seems like the bus was filled with the emission from the diesel engine. Reminded me of a member's signature that goes something like 'I like waking up to a Jet's exhaust'.
On-Board
Full load. No sickness bag available. Service started in 10 mins approx after takeoff. Rava kichidi and mini oothappams served. Flight landed before time (exact time unavailable).
Transfer
My parents had to stand in the queue for transfer to int'l terminal for close to an hour before they knew that the x-ray machine at the head of the queue wasn't working and that there was no bus service owing to this reason. So they took the pre-paid taxi service to the int'l terminal. Standard 170/-.
Leg 2
On-Board
Full load again. No sickness bag again. No hand towels. Surprisingly they couldn’t figure out the foot rest. Does 9W Y cabin sport them? Got greeted with a tetra pak of Tropicana and a bag of Murukku.
Lunch (Vegetarian) was a piping hot Fried rice variety with peas curry, equally hot roti wrapped in foil, aloo + chana+chat masala raita, bun+Amul butter, dhal-in-condensed-milk kheer for dessert, melon+pineapple+pappaya fruit salad followed by tea/ coffee.
Snack menu was a hot veg+cheese masala based sandwich.
Looks like the usual 'baahar ka taapmaan','mein F/O xyz aur chief abc aapka swagat/ dhanyavaadh' etc announcements were made at the required times.
Highlight was the service. My parents were completely satisfied with the way things were handled by the cabin crew. They seemed to be very courteous/ polite/ helping etc. No complains whatsoever. Seats 52A/B meant that they were close to the galley and whenever they went close to it for stretching their legs, they were time and again checked on if they needed anything at all. I had asked them to have plenty of fluids during the flight and that was very efficiently taken care of by the crew.
Minor details : Frequent seat-belt on signs, clean rest-rooms, meal service started first with kids meals that consisted of wafers among other things (and it was noted that it was the parents who mostly had the kids meals too since the kids were engrossed in the IFE games!!). Landing was bumpy according to my parents but I doubt it was the application of thrust reverser they were referring to since they said it was accompanied by a lot of cabin rattling!!). The mandatory spray (dis-infectant??) was performed. No Immigration cards were distributed in-flight (can this be true??) and my parents picked it up before standing in the queue at LHR.
Touched down
Immigration queue was lengthy as usual and the process went smooth. By the time my parents arrived at the baggage carousel the display of the flight number and the carousel number had been taken off, may be since they were at the back of the a/c and hence everything was at a lag. |

Seems like a nice, uneventful flight (except for the JetBus and the Sahar transfer).
As for the landing cards, it happens on all airlines. Sometimes they forget, sometimes they run out.
And Heathrow seems to be getting worse by the day. _________________ four years free of jetya punti! |

Thanks for a nice report, @megatop747! The on-board service on Jet looks nice, especially on the International leg. It is nice that the cabin crew took good care of your parents. MAA also has these `afterburner' buses? I had thought that it was only CCU which had the old ratty Air India buses. I second Jason's observation on LHR - I missed a connection (a bus to Bristol) standing for an inordinate amount of time in the immigration at LHR. I managed to change ALL, I repeat, all numbers in my mobile to +91, and still ended up having nothing to do, standing in the line.
Cheers, Sumantra. |

This is the part that really stands out - no direct fault of 9W - but something they should manage better for their transfer pax. A voucher towards the cab ride and an early warning would have been appropriate.
Glad your folks had a good flight on 9W, and the crew took good care of them! _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Thanks for sharing.
I tried posting a TR y'stdy and the same problem happened.
@Sumantra, yeah Jet does, they have the whole variety of buses in MAA, mainly depends on your luck what you get. Believe me, on the morning of the 16th of May, they bussed a load of pax for 9W 489 on an SG bus! _________________ Causal Determinism : We are hardwired to need answers.
