As posted earlier, I got a chance to fly to Europe on OS via DEL T3. Of course, I was delighted to experience the new terminal, and if I can summarize at the start - world class is the word that immediately comes to mind!!!
Here's a series of pictures up to duty free (approx 30 out of 70). Will upload the rest in the next few days:
Immaculate/clean exterior
About 8 different entry points in.
Clear signage - though the metro itself is not ready - as are many parts of T3.
Entry through gate 4 - not very clear on which airlines are near which gates, hence the cabby dropped me off right at the start - at gate 1.
The FIDS once inside.
The OS J counter - where I was bumped to J as the flight was overbooked ! The counter staff also offered to take my pictures when they saw me clicking away. Very nice!
The Y counters had long queues though the J was empty. Definitely recommend that OS use the empty J counter to serve 1 Y pax at a time
The closed section!
Queues for another airline
9W checkin area
A different check-in area
OS once again
Huge line of check-in counters
Snack counters as you enter the terminal
Forex counters as you enter the terminal
Another pic of the check-in island
Domestic departures - entrance to security.
AI counters, flights to JFK and maybe a few other destinations at this time.
Long queues at LH
More LH
Premium counters at LH
Numerology gone wild?
One world territory, BA and AA side by side.
More BA/ AA
On the right the immigration counters are for foreign passport holders.
Separate counters for premium pax (in the center) and Indian pax on the left of the immigration hall
Immigration for Indian passport holders
Immediately after immigration was security check - which was moving slower than immigration. And just after security check started the shopping arcade - uh - duty free outlets!
Duty free
FIDS in the secure zone
More Duty free
As mentioned earlier - this is a series of pictures up to duty free (approx 30 out of 70). Will upload the rest in the next few days _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Great pictures Nimish! More Indian elements can be spotted- at the check-in desks where you have pictures of the musical instruments. Also I liked that poster- "This Site attracts the most eyeballs" or something of the like.
Out of curiosity, in immigration what was the ratio of Indian passport counters to Foreign passport counters? I would think it would be 80:20? And were they being used appropriately? Like Indians didn't jump into the foreign line and thus make it redundant...happens elsewhere in our country. _________________ Yeah. |

Thanks for the pics Nimish!!
Not overly impressed by the scenes pre-security. Still looks pretty much like T2. Post security seems promising, waiting for the remaining pics.
P.S. - No fancy stuff @ immigration when you leave the country?! |

Firstly, so good to see you hoping ON and OFF just to experience T3.
The pics are lovely! However, the Crowd Mgmt at check-in looks bad, specially when they have Lines going right upto the Counters. Was that the scene everywhere, or was that just OS Ground handling ?

Agree with Justbala, pre-security is messy ! |

Thanks Spidey! Yes - there's enough Indian elements everywhere, definitely a good touch in the terminal. That poster is an ad for an ad space!

Foreign were about 8, while Indian were about 22, and common "F/J" were about 4, so the ratio is probably 65% Indian, vs 24% Foreign vs. 12% F/J. I don't know about the "appropriate use" bit as I was in the right line.

Thanks Ojas! I should have a couple of OS food pics later on in this TR...

Thanks Bala... The scenes pre-security were actually not bad at all - in terms of checkin or the immigration. Security is what was the slowest.
Hi Rutvij - thanks for your comments, I jumped at the chance to fly my first 767 and cover T3 at the same time .. The pics just reflect the new terminal - which is really nice and shiny right now. The crowd management at check-in is the airline's issue, they need to manage their queues properly and have adequate check-in staff. The queues are like this at most airports in the world - including SFO, LHR etc., but generally it moves fast as it's a single queue and there are 8-10 check in counters operating.
The immigration was also decent, but as mentioned earlier, the security check took forever. It was not like there were insufficient counters or the counters were closed, but it was still painfully slow. _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

@RKRamesh, domestic operations should start sometime between mid-end September. _________________ Causal Determinism : We are hardwired to need answers. The Caveman who heard a rustle in the bushes and checked out to see what it was, lived longer than the guy, who assumed it was just a breeze.

I did not have to interact with the staff at all - only the airline staff at check-in. The CISF/ Immigration chaps were the standard sorts - nothing negative there. _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Continuing with my other pictures:
The scene after the initial "shopping mall". My lounge was upstairs, while there were restaurants towards the right.
If you turn towards the right - there's something still under construction but neatly barricaded.
Some sculpture, nothing very impressive IMHO.
The way up to the lounges. There's a little area where I could see some parked aircraft at the stands - the view from here was mainly AI.
Nice seats and prominent plug points there - very handy indeed!!
View of the tarmac from the same place.
After I entered the lounge, I realized they'd kept my lounge card, so I went back, got hold of it to take a picture, and then handed it back to the lounge staff. They were very amused!
A view of the lounge itself - quite snazzy, but issues like no power in entire aisles and so on. Definitely still in it's infancy.
Another view inside the lounge
This is the entrance of the lounge from when you're inside it. The area just after the passage/ railing is the 2 story high atrium (with that sculpture in the middle).
View looking down from just outside the lounge
There are actually sofas and good seating just outside the food court at this level.
Overexposed picture - but a view of the seating downstairs
The chairs/ sofas at the food court on the 1st floor
Mystery invisible phones
The smoking room just outside the food court/ lounges!
Some of the options available. Don't miss "idli.com" on the left of this picture!!
Western choices
More options - one is still under construction. After this I took an escalator down to the ground floor - back again near that sculpture. There was a nice book store there - bought some books for my flight, and then continued exploring the terminal...
"Where taste buds blossom" - a corny line if there was ever one!
Sports franchising catching up here as well.
Suddenly - it seems like you've stepped out of the strip to the desert! This is the end of the "entertainment zone", and now it gets down to serious aviation business
The FIDS screens
There seemed to be quite a few of these golf carts around - which was good. However they seem to be more like toys at the moment - no order was evident in terms of who can board /use these and when. Maybe that's good, everyone can take a golf cart to the gates ?
Huge empty spaces all along. I bet we'll have kiosks selling things there in a few months!
A washed out shot of the infamous carpet
The gate area of the LH flight that day
Long travelators!
Still got a couple of more pictures - will post them at the next opportunity! _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

More pictures:
Empty spaces utilized for seating...
More in focus shot!
9W boarding - probably YYZ?
Lovely vertical garden - really liked this...
Without the passerby
The famous loo entrance
The walkway down to my gate
My first 767 experience
Neighboring aircraft
The engine...
The flight on OS in J was awesome - really good service - better than LH and much better than LX in J. The return flight in OS was in Y - and that was an even better experience IMO - with the crew really making everyone feel at home, and being friendly, and super prompt.
OS - one of the best *A experiences so far.
And for those looking for a track - here's my BLR-DEL track on 9W:

I the design of carpet is not working well, its clasing with the surroundings, but the one at Singapore T3 is the worst ever. |

I just completed my 2nd international flight from DEL T3 (prefer DEL T3 over BOM any day), the airport is still looking nice and clean and new.
There's a new (2nd) Plaza premium lounge opened up - kind of above the Delhi Daredevils sports bar. They were prominently displaying their tie up with the Diners card and confirmed from the Diners site that entry's allowed with the Diners card. This lounge was better than the original lounge (in the mezzanine level), though there is no view from this place.
DEL-MUC-SFO was all relatively painless, though the amazing thing was the presence of Rajma-Chawal and palak-matter in the MUC lounge!!!!! That had me by surprise, I've never ever seen Indian food in any Lufthansa lounge... My cousin (here in SFO) confirmed that she saw Indian food in the FRA lounges as well during her recent flight to India and back on first. Not sure if anyone else has seen this?
The rajma-chawal was outstanding, and the palak-mutter was really nice too - had a touch of Dill in it changing it's taste significantly, though still nice. _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Great Pics and wonderful trip report Nimish.Keep it coming.
T3 really looks world class....Hope to get a chance to see that some time...'Spacious' is the word that comes to my mind as far as T3 is concerned.
Unlike the old international terminal at IGI where everyone had to cramp for space at the immigration counter. _________________ www.flickr.com/G-BYGB photos |
