Chappell resigns as India coach

MUMBAI (Reuters) - India coach Greg Chappell handed in his resignation on Wednesday, two days before the Indian cricket board meets to analyse the team's poor World Cup performance in the Caribbean.

"Today I informed the president of the BCCI that I would not seek an extension to my contract to coach the Indian cricket team for family and personal reasons," Chappell said in a statement.

The Australian's two-year contract was due to run out at the end of April.

Real reason is he feared he would meet the same fate as Bob Woolmer.

Some interesting developments here Shocked
Bangladesh cricket board irked by Whatmore remarks

DHAKA (Reuters) - The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) criticised coach Dav Whatmore on Thursday after he expressed his interest in succeeding Greg Chappell as India coach.

The BCB were annoyed Whatmore put his hand up for the Indian job while his current charges were still involved in a World Cup campaign in the Caribbean.

"We are in the middle of a very high-profile tournament. At this stage any such interest of the coach would certainly distract our team," Riazuddin Al Mamun, a joint-secretary of the BCB, told Reuters.

You can blame the coach all you want it is his responsibility, but it sounds like the main problem was with the players. It was their attitudes and style which led to our defeat.

Chappell to stay, gets new role

Mumbai: Greg Chappell may not be saying a final farewell to Indian cricket after all. According to sources within the BCCI, the Aussie is likely to be offered a role as consultant at the National Cricket Academy, all this at the end of a dramatic first day of the BCCI's two-day meet in Mumbai where the outgoing coach, manager and captain made their case.

Chappell and India captain Rahul Dravid were among the first to make their way into the BCCI headquarters. They were followed by tour manager Sanjay Jagdale. All three were to offer their take on the World Cup failure and the bigger problems that confront Indian cricket.

If chappell is to stay on as coach....Give him 100% control else choose someone else, which would be easier.
Rewamp the Domestic scene & get paid professionals with accountability to work.

Still won't make a difference as long as you ban them from ads and make some arrangement, for every run = $$ similarly for every wicket and negative incase they miss a catch, or the opponent teams hits a foru/ sixer, etc.

Btw CNN World News had some disturbing reports of betting still going on till date in India and Pakistan. The main betting folks are in Pakistan and India callers call up there to make their betting amounts. Cellphones npt allowed beyond a certain point in the stadium for players, but there are informers who update them

Two positive updates on Chappell

Chappell has lot to offer: Shastri

Mumbai: Former India all-rounder Ravi Shastri, who has been offered the job of the manager of the Indian cricket teams has said that former coach Greg Chappell has a lot to offer to Indian cricket.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has offered Chappell the post of a consultant at the National Cricket Academy after the Aussie quit as the Indian coach following the team's poor show in the World Cup.

"I'm happy that BCCI has offered Chappell a role in Indian cricket. I still feel that he has a lot to offer to the team," Shastri said.

Greg made huge errors: Rameez

Former Pakistan skipper Rameez Raja believes Greg Chappell failed to inspire and make the Indian team play like a unit in the World Cup. He also believes that Sachin Tendulkar should concentrate only on Test cricket from now on. He spoke exclusively to CNN-IBN's Nishant Arora.

Rameez Raja: Somehow or the other, I think he (India coach Greg Chappell) made a couple of huge errors. I think number one was that unfortunately he couldn't really spot the right talent to replace some of the older generation, so whatever talent was showcased at the world level really didn't come up to the mark.

And also, I think his relationship dwindled because of his methods. I'm just speculating, maybe he was just a little too tough and maybe his ways of dealing with some of the players was not the appropriate way that should have been undertaken by him. I'm only speculating, but something was certainly wrong. In this World Cup, India didn't really look like a team.

Indians are still optimistic about Chappell. While Rameez Raja gets a chance to comment on the Indian team that it didn't look like a team- right !!!

Chappell unwell, rushed to Mumbai hospital

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Former Australian cricket captain Greg Chappell, who quit as coach of the Indian national team this week, was rushed to hospital in the western city of Mumbai on Saturday after he took ill, his wife said.

Chappell, who had been due to return home on Friday via Singapore, put off the journey after he felt unwell.

He was taken to Bombay Hospital on Saturday for tests, wife Judy told Indian TV news channels. The nature of Chappell's illness was not immediately known.

How will reduction of Ads help.

In fact performance based pay would be a better option.
